Long time reader, new member. My name is Justin. I am originally from Oklahoma. I've got 19 Years in active the Army. Currently stationed on Oahu.
I visited Oklahoma while on leave in December. I have always wanted a 3rd Gen 4Runner. I found a 1996 limited with 120K, stock. I got it cheap because the guy I bought it from thought the tranny was failing (I knew it was a solenoid issue). I bought the 4Runner. Replaced the shift solenoids. And the 4Runner runs like a champ.
The only problem is that I chose not to bring my 4Runner to Hawaii. I left it in my father's good hands back in Oklahoma, so as I upgrade things, I have to send my dad and brother out for test-runs!
I re-unite with the vehicle when I PCS in August.
My first upgrade was suspension, wheels, and tires. After much perusing of this site I finally bought a set of Pacer model 164B 17x9 wheels and a set of BF GOODRICH ALL-TERRAIN T/A KO 275/70R17s. I bought the full Old Man Emu (OME) heavy duty suspension and a leveling kit for the front (2.5 all around).
I could not be happier with the results. I get some slight rubbing on the front tires with the stock bumper when climbing and turning (simultaneously). I think that'll be alleviated with an ARB model 3423020 bumper.
Anyway, that's for all the input. Attached are the before and after pics.
