New member here. Suspension question

Long time "Yota" owner. Took ownership of my wife's 04 runner this week, and am looking to do a small lift. In your guys opinion which is a better choice?

Little bio first, gonna be a daily driver, little to no off roading, and will be pulling a 14' trailer a few days a week. (Landscaping business)

Option #1- cornfed 3/2 spacer kit

Option #2- toytec 3" front spacer with 2" rear coil spring lift

Which one is gonna have the most lift and allow for a 285/70/17 tire with a 0 offset wheel and 4.5" BS? Without having to do a lot of trimming and chop the body mount.

If you plan on running 285/70R17 tires, you're almost guaranteed to require a body mount chop to get rid of the rubbing.

I run 275/70R17 and I HARDLY clear the body mount, had to do alot of cutting on the plastic wheel well to fix the rubbing, I'd imagine 285/70R17 tires would undoubtedly rub on both wheel well and body mount

Those are both going to lift about 3" front and 2" rear as advertised.

If you're towing a lot you may as well get some stiffer coils though, instead of the cornfed spacer IMO.

Very few people run 285s without trimming and there aren't many without the body mount chopped either. Of those who are, I believe most drive very conservatively, have slight rubbing, or are lying.

Ok. Next questions. If I decide to stay with a 265/70/17
A: will they look too small
B: could I or would I need to run a set of spidertrax spacer if I am running the wheels mentioned above?

A: Can't comment on. I run 285-70-17's on a Toytec Ultimate lift and I don't rub the body mount. Wonder if switching to LR-UCAs may result in rubbing here from the added caster.

B: Kind of depends on the wheel width, but with 4.5" backspacing on a 7.5-9" width wheel, you should NOT need to run wheel spacers. In fact, adding spacers at that point may make your rubbing issues WORSE.

What about the Revtek 3/2 spacer lift with rear shocks? Anybody ever use one of have any opinions of it?

I have 17x8.5" wheels with 4.5" backspacing. I measured stock backspacing at 5.5" and width at 7.5". So, my new wheels are sticking out 2" farther to the outside than the stock wheels did. With 265/65-17 I have less than 0.5" clearance at the front splash guards. With a 285 series tire, I'd rip my front end apart first time I turned the steering wheel.

I am strongly considering going back to stock wheels. That way, you can run a 265/70, 255/75, or if you really want ground clearance a 255/80.

And, if you haul/tow a lot I strongly recommend better coil springs such as Old Man Emu medium or heavy coils. The stock 4Runner coils are very soft and I find that they are horrible for even medium loads.

I used the low range offroad 3"/2" kit and it worked out great. I preferred the aluminum front spacers versus the plastic day star ones. I replaced it with a full suspension lift as I wanted the proper down travel and uprated load capacity.
