Question on Bilstein TRD suspension

Need help from people in the know-

I jumped on the FJ Cruiser Bilstein kit PTR13-35140 back in 2019 and installed it with 1" toytec preload spacers up front and Dobinson 1.5 inch springs in the rear. I dont recall the actual numbers but something like 3" front and 2" rear, nicely leveled.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago. Dealer noticed both front coils were broken. We have an awesome extended warranty so with 120,000 miles they said they could get them covered. I told them the original part number and they said that was a Toyota South number and they can't get it. Long story short they got PTR13-89161 and installed them, without the spacers as expected.

I lost close to 2" up front. The steering is now very heavy and the truck is very stinkbug. Unacceptable and dangerous I believe.

Does anyone know if there are 2 options on the Toyota Bilstein struts, maybe standard height vs. 1" lift? I have seen PTR13-89160 listed for TRD Pro but no dimensions. I don't know if I should complain to the dealer or just figure out what i need in the back to get the rig leveled out again.

Could the experts please chime in with some options? Thanks.

You need to provide a little more info. Did they just replace the coils or did they replace the both the shocks and coils?

Sounds like they took all your mods out and put OEM stock suspension in. My guess is that you don’t have a TRD, most likely the warranty only replaces parts that originally came with your 4Runner. If that’s the case then it looks like you’re going to have to buy new coils. If you do then I suggest you also get the Bilstein coils so you have a matching set, you’re more likely to get better performance out of it.

Also, if the mechanics left the Bilstein shocks in and just swapped the coils you may want to check and see if the put the coil brackets back in the same place or if they put them on the bottom.

It sounds likely they replaced your coils with those of the 4Runner TRD kit, not the FJ TRD kit. I believe the FJ kit uses 14” springs and the 4Runner kit uses 13” springs, which explains the loss of static height.

The FJ coils are part number PTR13-35140-AA.
