Hello all,

Recently acquired my first 4runner, and first Toyota.

It's a 1999 SR5, picked it up fairly cheap, has 240k miles on it, currently at the shop doing a engine swap on it.

Took it to the shop after I picked it up to have a normal tune up done to it and to get new belts, had some leaky valve covers, so I asked them to put some new gaskets on it, below is a picture of what they found, and the reason for the current engine swap.

The packed oil in the heads feels like hard dirt when you touch/poke, mechanic told me the oil hadn't been changed in possibly years, previous owner just kept dumping it in.

Nice looking truck. Sorry to hear about the engine problems. What part of Indiana are you from? I am about 15 min east of Indianapolis and I too just picked up my first 4Runner (also my first Toyota) on Wednesday. Drove 3 hours to Ohio for this one. Just needed a good cleaning and some shocks. I can't wait to start "tinkering" with it.

I grew up in Indy, but after the military I moved down south, I live just outside of New Albany, about 10 minutes or so from Louisville.

Nice to meet you, I love the black 4runners, they look great.
