New member of the T4R forum, and new owner of a '99 4WD Limited in Natural White.
I have never owned a 4Runner before, but have been interested in having one for several years. Been visiting the forum as a non-registered reader for 6 months or so.
Finally got an opportunity recently to buy a very nice rig -- a 2-owner with 165K, with a 40-item CARFAX listing of all the dealer maintenance that's been done to it.
When I took it to my local Toyota dealer for a pre-buy inspection, they came up with very little: wipers and air filter needed replacement, a license plate light was burned out, and there is a small leak in the aft transfer case seal. Other than that, everything was pretty much good. It's had two timing belt/water pump replacements, and everything else appears to have been performed on time with Toyota's schedule.
I don't think it's ever really been off road; the first owner took it to the dealer *a lot* for routine maintenance, and it appears to just have been some kind of highway queen (lots of rock chips in the bumper). The 2nd owner lived out in the country, so there is red clay dust all over in every possible nook and cranny, but it was still meticulously maintained mechanically and the interior is very clean.
So, I'm looking forward to many years with this thing. I probably won't do much in the way of off-road mods, as this will be my daily driver....but I do have an urge to tinker with things, so you just never know.
One minor question -- one of the few things 'wrong' with this truck is the hood visor/bug deflector. There are supposed to be 4 plastic fasteners to hold it on, but one is missing and the other is stripped out.
Anyone know where I can get replacement mounting hardware?
