New Member - Looking to purchase a 4th Gen 4Runner

Have been lurking for a few weeks, and finally decided to post my questions to get some first hand input. If this is the wrong forum to post this question, please move it or lock it.

I'm looking to purchase a 4th Gen 4runner in the 2006-2007 range for around 22K

The specific model I'd like to get are either the 4x4 SE or Limited Edition V8s. No navigation etc package required.

Is 19500 for a SE V8 with 78K miles on it a reasonable offer? The suv runs fine, but on smelling the radiator area up close I thought I could smell some burning.

The skid plate - least thats what I thought it was near the front has one of the screws missing and one of the rubber caps is also missing. Rusting is also noticeable, and a 61K driven 2006 V6 Limited was cleaner but not a V8. How much are these plates to replace and is rust fairly common around these parts?

Finally, what kind of coverage will the Toyota Pre-Certified provide?

I'm also in the market for a 4G but have restricted my search to 03-05 to keep it under 20k. From what I'm seeing around here (Colorado) yours looks like an exceptionally great deal and I'd be all over that. Good find and congratulations!

I believe that to qualify for an extended warranty or for the 4Runner to be certified it must have less than 60K miles.

Thanks for the input guys, keep them coming. I'm going to pass on the deal for now. Still trying to find the right one for me, and having a color preference makes it all that harder

Rust is common under the skid plates because it holds moisture up around the frame more. You are better to remove the rubber plugs in it and even drill some more holes or remove it all together if it's going to be a road queen.

I just bought an '06 limited, V8 with 48k miles for $22500 one owner, immaculate, with extended warranty and toyota's 60k drivetrain warranty. No rust or marks anywhere and with new bridgestone tires. I'm picking it up Saturday from skyland automotive, NC.

Compared to what I'm getting those sound like steals. I think I'll widen my search a little bit. Think I just picked a bad time to look for one with winter and all.

i got my 06 v8,with only 6800 on it & had leather int. added ,toward the end of 07, for 27k.after it was returned to the dealer when the guy could no longer make the payments, the front bumper was badly scratched , but off course thet fixed it. i lucked out, it was just an example of right timing , & paying cash ,but was an out of state buy for me tho.

I'm leaning towards the V8. The real question is is

33K a good price for a

2008 Limited.. 4x4 with RAS/ X-REAS everything loaded package - 20K Miles V8

if your ever going to consider lifting the new vec. the 08 with RAS will limit what setup you can use, but it does have the nice smooth v8. maybe you can get them to come down to 30,000. my advice is , if you can, go drive it, i think that will make your decision easier.

I test drove a few 4Runners over the last week. My conclusion thus far

Like the torque on the V8, and it runs noticeably quieter than the V6.

Secondly, the lack of a telescoping steering creates problems for me, 190+ cm and have long legs and the steering control is a must. So the SR5 is out.

I do find the seating position of the new 4Runner better (2010), it feels less like you are sitting on your ass with your knees high in the air. Which is what I dislike about my current Honda Accord Coupe '99.

Dealer was kind of adamant, brought it down from 34K to 33K, but doesnt seem to want to budge on the price any more. Just seems odd that the 08 still costs nearly = to a 2010 4Runner

the v8 is also fulltime 4wd, the v6 is selectable, however the FT 4wd on the v8 is much different than the partime setting with the v6 .something else for you to consider. id say keep looking , you'll know it when you find it.

Have another question.

I can find many Lexus GX 470's around 2006-2007 range with ~50K miles certified going for 32K.
I would prefer the more utilitarian 4Runner, but wouldnt mind the luxury of the Lexus in the same price range. Only concern is, WHY is the lexus depriciating so fast?
