New Member, need advice! replacement shocks for 1996 Toyota Surf (ssr-g)

Fellow members,

I hope you are all doing well. I'm a new member on this forum and hope to contribute in a positive way to the forum.

I needed the forum member's help in solving a problem. I currently own a 1996 Toyota Surf (ssr-g) outside of the US, which needs its shocks replaced, just the shocks/struts, the springs are fine. I am currently in the US and was thinking of taking back the replacement shocks/struts with me. However, in the US the Toyota Surf is sold under the name of Toyota 4runner, hence parts for the 4runner are available, and not for the Surf. My question is, can I buy replacement shocks/struts from the US that are for the 4runner, and will they fit my Surf?

Also, which brand shocks/struts do you all recommend if the 4runner ones will fit the Surf?

I'd appreciate any advice and help!

Where is your Surf located Raheel? KYB's and Bilstein's are good options. I like the KYB Gas-a-just shocks.

My Surf is located in Pakistan. I have previously taken aftermarket headlights for a 4runner back to Pakistan, and they fit perfectly in my Surf, so I'm hoping the struts will also fit, was just hoping someone could chime in and give me the go ahead before I purchase them.

And I was also thinking KYB or Bilstein

Your username had me thinking Pakistan. Karachi? I see no reason why 4Runner parts would not fit. The suspensions are identical aside from the steering. Toyota Prado parts are also direct fit as well. I would assume they are much easier to find parts for in Pakistan as well. In fact, the OME suspension kits used here by numerous members are actually meant for Prado's.

Lol nope, Islamabad Parts are readily available in Pakistan, but alot of the time they are of questionable quality (refurbished and sold as new again), and if you go directly to Toyota to buy them, they burn a hole in your wallet

The headlights I bought from the US only cost me about 130 dollars for the pair, and in Pakistan, a used pair was costing me triple that amount!!

Do you happen to know what part numbers I would need if I went with Bilstein shocks?

Ah I see. I have family there. I have noticed that JDM Surf's have become popular imports over there in recent years. Have you seen any US market 4Runner's get imported into PK? Many 4Runner's in the northeast US get exported to Africa and countries such as Afghanistan. I always wondered if PK was another destination in that list.

Regarding the shocks, I would not know the part numbers off the top of my head. Any parts warehouse should be able to source them in you tell them it is for a 1996 or similar year 4Runner. The Bilstein website should have part number finder as well.

Nice! I'm actually heading back soon for a visit so thought I'd grab some parts and take them back with me

I honestly haven't seen any US market 4runner's in PK, only the JDM surfs...maybe it has to do with the US market vehicles being left hand drive...although there are other vehicles (Hummer, corvette, mustang, etc.) that have been imported into PK from the US.

Looks correct. I recommend ordering from Amazon.

BTW, I recommend that you post any future threads in the 3rd Gen section. This section is kind of dead.

Thanks! I checked amazon, but the rear shocks require an extra 1-2 days to process (even with amazon prime), and I need them by Friday at the latest (leaving on Saturday lol)...Tire rack shows that they can be delivered by tomorrow (since they're coming from Delaware, and I'm in Maryland) so will probably order from them
