PNWRunner

Lurked on this forum for quite a while now, used info off here to decide on a trans cooler and get codes for my scanguage2. Finally joining after getting my new 4Runner put together.

Bought this basket case 99 4Runner Limited off Craigslist back in Feb and just finished her up this month. Previous and only owner put 200k on it before a blown HG put it out of commission. I decided to swap a 2wd JDM import and make myself a new DD.

What it looked like when i bought it.

Looks good man! Are you the same guy on YT that just finished rebuilding the motor on the 4Runner??? Eitherway, looks great man!

yeah thats me

Steering rack bushings from wheelers came in the mail today, hopefully that will take care of some of the wandering. Probably well overdue for upper/lower bj's as well and seeing the recent threads of them failing is making me a bit uneasy.

how much did that imported motor cost you, im worried i may be needing one sooner than later. Would like to find one already SCed but ill take what i can get haha

I bought mine from foreignengines.com. I didnt use the website at all because their warehouse is only a couple miles from my house. Tax and all it cost $2,220 for a 99 2wd 5vzfe. I bought mine the day of the tsunami in Japan, I have no idea if that will effect the future price of the motors but I imagine it would.

The price is a bit steep, but I didnt trust myself on a rebuild and didnt want to take the gamble of buying a rebuilt. 500 miles later I am very pleased with the motor.

This is what it looked like inside

hey man can you post link to your YotaTech rebuild thread of this engine. I assume it has some good details.

also suggest you replace the radiator if you haven't already. That and LBJs seem to be the only truck killers I know of. Even at $1.5-2k a rebuild isn't as bad as LBJ fail while driving or pink milkshake.

Thanks
