New member w/o 4runner though

Hey guys, I've been reading up on this site for a few weeks. I just moved down here from San Jose and hopefully will pick up a 4runner within the next month or so (gotta sell my current car first). I had a quick question. If I wanted to do some off-roading, much like the trip you all took this past weekend, are e-lockers A MUST, or can i get away with just 4x4? I'm not looking to do any rock climbing or river crossing just some off-roading and trips to Tahoe & Big Bear in the winter. Thanks in advance!

E-lockers are not required to do the trip we just went on, in fact we had some 2wd Runners on the trip. I will say though that if you are purchasing one it is easier to find one now than add one later. You can wheel a lot of stuff with an open differential but if you get hooked then you may want one later.

Yup I agree, this hobby is hecka addictive!!

E-Locker is not required, but its great insurance to have. Couple of months ago I made it up a difficult run 2N17X with street tires and factory e-lock. Guys without got pulled out. Guys who had center lockers did good.
