New Member w/ Tire Question

I recently picked up a 2006 Silver SR5 4X4 w/ 23k and I absolutely love it. Coming from an Audi A4, I am definitely looking forward to sleeping at night without wondering what's going to go wrong with my car next. So here's the question. The tires on my truck now are the Bridgestone Duehlers 265/65/17. Eventually I am going to need/want new tires and I think I have narrowed it down to these two options (staying with the stock size): Bridgestone Duehler Revos or Goodyear Fortera Triple Tread. What does everyone think? I mainly do on-road driving but living in Cincinnati, I usually encounter some pretty decent snow storms during the winters. Also, I might venture out onto some trails in the near future. Thanks in advance guys and I'm proud to be a member of the forum!

I know there are a lot of Revo fans here, and the Goodyear Fortera has very high ratings on TireRack.com. Another choice I'd consider for on-road with winter snow is the Michelin Cross Terrain. CT's came stock on my truck, and I think they're awesome in the snow.

Only 1200 miles on my Sport V6, 4X4, but I am considering Pirelli Scorpion next time around. maybe sooner. Looks good on paper but is anyone running this tire?

I just bought a set of 265/65TR-17 Continental CrossContact LX. They had great reviews, so I'm hoping they are quality. I don't plan on doing much off-roading, so I think they'll be ok.

What tire are most guys using these days??

Goodyear set out on a specific mission when designing the tripletreads. They acknowledged that most SUV drivers spend no time off road and designed a great tire for all weather and road conditions. Since you will eventually venture off road, I would go with the REVO's. The all terrain tread pattern and tread compound will be more suitable for your intended use, providing the traction and confidence you need in all situations. Plus they look wicked pissah!

Thanks a lot for the input guys! You have been very helpful. I got a few prices from Tire Discounters (A local tire joint) and they said that they had to "special order" either set of tires. They priced me at $235/tire for the Revos and $204/tire for the GY. Those prices include allignment, lifetime balancing, nitrogen inflation, and shipping. Will they charge me more since I have the TPMS valve stems? Or do they just transfer the stems? Thanks again.

Make sure they're aware that you have TPMS valve stems so that they don't damage them. They don't need to touch or replace the valve stems, but you need for the guy to be careful while dismounting and mounting the tires.

I understand your original post mentioned stock size, but if you consider size 265/70/17 you can save almost $80 on a set of four and you will gain a half inch ground clearance. You will get "more" tire and sacrifice very little.

The tire dealer is adding in a lot of fluff that will cost you almost a grand before you're done. REVOs retail at Mavistire.com $167 for 65 series and $148 for 70 series. As for the extras, the dealer is charging $68 per tire, are you really going to benefit from all those extras. If you rotate every 5k, then yes. But who has time to do that?

I have read a lot about people going up a size to the 70s, but will this cause any issues in regards to voiding the warranty? Also, won't that cause some rubbing issues?

One more thing guys. How do the Revos do in the snow? I know teh Triple Treads have the snowflake symbol and the Revos do not. I have heard people complain about the Revos in the snow.

265/70 will not rub, only if you went with a mud terrain tire could it possibly rub.

I dont know the facts regarding the warranty, but IMO it should not void it. I doubt they'd even bother to check.

I put 82K on the Bridgestones that came on my 04 2wd. Same size Michelins threw off my speedometer and odometer. I say stick with the Bridgestones. I has 2 sets on a 95 chevy Z71 and got 60K+ on both sets.

I would like to also recomend the Nitto terra grappler awesome tire way cheaper then the revos especially if you might hit the trails. they have them on 4wheel parts.com for 135 each plus 89 for shipping in a 265/70/17 they rubbed alittle when I came into a parking lot to fast nothing to major didn't notice a gas mileage loss and they will make you 4runner not look like a soccer mom suv :bigok: Sorry this ended up on the front page some how and it's an old post? weird

Another vote for the Michelin Cross Terrains. I had a set of Bridgestones on my previous 4Runner and prefer the Michelin's on my 2008 4Runner.

a 2nd for the grapplers. just had them put on 2 days ago and did some serious off roading for work yesterday. they are bad a**. they make your t4r look like a beast, much better. ride great on the highway with a slight increase in sound but nothing major.

Here is the evolution of my brainstorming so far for my tire purchase. First, I had my heart set on the Revos. However, I read about too many complaints of their performance in the snow (which is important to me). Next, I really was interested in the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor. However, too many members complained about the significant MPG loss they suffered after putting the Silent Armors on. So, now I am looking at the Michelin LTX A/T-2s. Does anyone have an opinion on them? They seem to be getting good reviews and people are saying they last a while, are good on gas mileage, and are good in the snow and off-road. Seems like a winner to me.
