New member with a 2002

hey everyone i just found this site today and figured since i just got a 2002 4runner that i would sign up since i'm looking into some stuff for my car. its a 4wd limited, metallic silver with tan leather and has just over 80,000 on it. it's bone stock since it's a hand me down from my mom. she gets a new acura RDX, while my old car was a 1991 Lexus ES250. the first modifications i plan on making are the sound system and then a tint. i have a quote for the tinting, but was wondering if anyone here had suggestions for a good subwoofer/amp setup, and maybe a headunit if necessary. if i can get by with not getting a new headunit i'd like to keep the price around $6-700, with install and all the wires and such. DIY isn't really an option for me with school being back in, and it being my senior year...haha, so CC will probably be doing the install. any input is really appreciated and i look foward to visiting back here as much as i can.

here's a picture of it, it's in the shop now replacing the entire front valance and rar bumpers because i hit a deer a few weeks back and i couldnt bear hearing plastic rubbing on the tire every time i made a left turn :nono:

I would look into the basslink if you plan on camping, hauling or regular use of the seats. sounds great inside the runner, not thumpy outside and you move it if you need to real easy. heres a pic of mine...took me an hour to install everything, super easy!

i know CC sells them here but i got mine on ebay for 180 shipped, 20 amp kit from wally and an hour of work and beer!

on a side note, is your rear bumper end in good shape? the passanger side...want to sell it? silver?

not anymore CircuitCity (where I work) has discontinued all Infinitiy Products (im pissed off)

the basslink sub is a sub and amp all in one.. best bang for the buck.. you would want to get a new headunit if you get components and such. you can find headunits for around 110 or so depending on your preference. Mine was 250 but since I have discounts it was almost half that.

Shop around for good stuff.. and I advise if you do get installed by bestbuy or circuitcity.. be in the same room watching them.. I know that sometimes they will jip areas like ground wires and what not.. make sure thats done, inless you do it yourself.

thanks for the suggestion, i do plan on using the rear seats since i drive a carpool into school every day. would getting a bigger sub not allow me to use the seats? I guess i could get a new headunit if i really needed too, around 150-160 isn't bad since i've seen some nice ones around there.
when i do get a sub put in, besides the amp, and subwoofers themselves, what wiring kits/accessories should i also get? i'd like to find out here so if i buy everything at say circuit city, i don't get jipped on what they sell me vs. what i really need.

fire, here's a pic of what's getting replaced. i brought it to a lexus dealership to get repaired, as something similair happened to the left rear/mudflap/fender flare. sorry though, i think they keep all the parts.

2 chan amp with 2 channel wires and 8 gauge or 4 gauge for battery hookup.. im not sure what else but that might be all you really need.

all my speakers are wired to my amp.. i have a 6 chan infinity with kicker subs. you can do it that way.. id suggest just wiring components and rear doors to the headunit.. subs to amp. thats it

i meant use the rear cargo by laying the seats down. tell the dealer to save those parts for you. they are yours! put them on when going off road!

why would they keep the parts

youre paying for new ones, you still own the old ones.

also i have a basslink too in that same spot and its awesome

in terms of wiring i would just grab the rf 4/8 gauge wiring kit, runs about 70 bucks but all parts are high quality with heavy duty covers...plus most 3rd party audio shops charge around that for parts anyways

Ahh.... the sweet life of owning a 4Runner and being a senior, we got it made huh?

Check crutchfield.com for all your audio stuff, i got my HU from them shipped to my house with a harness and all for 150 bucks, and i have had 0 problems with it

I got my subs and amp locally and have paid about 550 bucks for them, fuses, wires, boxes, and other misc. stuff.

but i also have installed everything myself, so i dont know how much that i saved?

thanks for all the responses guys ive taken them all into consideration. my 4runner is still in the shop until wednesday, there was a big mixup with insurance and they didn't get the parts till friday, and ofcourse they start working on it on labor day weekend. i'm sick of my ford taurus! :beer: haha but anyways, i'm looking for a sub that will really thump. i've been told thats there's a harder hitting sub vs a cleaner crisper sub. in your all's opinion which sounds better? i listen to mostly rap and rock too, which one sounds better for that kind of music? or does it really matter that much? any more input is really appreciated.

i was searching BB and CC and came across this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...01&skuId=999957400050001&type=product&count=1 which looks pretty tempting for the price. 400W for $400 is not that bad of a deal, plus a nice headunit/all the wires and install would be about $700 total. what do you think?

I wouldn't let anyone from Circuit City or BestBuy touch my car unless you personally know the installer. Seriously... A guy I work with who used to work there said it is a joke at the people they put installing. He worked there after moving up from FL and couldn't find a shop where he lived, but people who know what they are doing generally don't work at these places.

As much as I hate them, Tweeter is a much better place to have your stuff installed, and higher quality parts. And I only say Tweeter because they are all over vs. the shop I work at where there is only few. If you are in or near NC, I can basically tell you every shop in the state with a good installer.

Don't sacrafice sound for money. I realize not everyone has a lot of money to drop on a system, but I guarentee that little box with a sub in it sounds like ass. It's $160 for a reason. Not because its a good deal, but because its a POS.
