New member with mystery wire

Hi ladies and gents!

I have recently purchased a 98 Limited auto with about 168K on the clock. Needs a bit of sorting out, but had the options I was looking for, and just the right set of challenges.

Any way, I was under the hood last night, familiarizing myself/trying to put together theories as to why the AC clutch doesn't engage when I came across the broken wire that is pictured.

It is Green/black and breaks away from the rest of the wiring harness behind the power steering. It seems to be the only wire that runs down there.

Any thoughts what this might be?

Bob,

Looks like the wire that goes to the plug that sits right on top of the A/C Compressor. If not that, maybe it goes to the plug on the back of the power steering reservoir area.

Easiest to get to from underneath?
Doesn't seem that easily accessible.

This is assuming you have 'Manual A/C' and a 5vz-FE. The wire is Light Green & Black and goes to the AC Clutch Relay which is located here: A2 is what your looking for.....

Good luck Bob, Access from the top is not bad. Once you get your eye on the plug you'll be able to find the easiest way to access it. I'm away from my 4Runner right not otherwise I'd video it so you can see how I get to it.

Gentlemen, thank you so much! AC now working and the repair didn't cost a cent! Work was a little fiddly trying to get to the connection sitting on top of the compressor. Went back and forth from underneath to the wheel well. Super satisfying repair though! Air blowing ice cold and zero expenditure! Love it! Thanks again!
