New Mexico 4Runner Owners Thread

Hey guys just wanted to let you know a friend and myself are going out the end of southern at about 9 (tomorrow, sat) for a few hours if anyone wants to come mess around.

I've been i ballin save up as fast as i can my wife thinks im nuts

I might stop by the wrench meet to see what you guys are up to as well.

I don't have much that I need to get done, but I could install my 2nd transmission cooler and replace the run of fuel line w/trans cooler hose... I also have some small wiring tidbits to get done. Other than that, I want to build some skids, but that won't be happening at the wrench meet.

Also, I wanted to mention here that there is a supercharger for sale in Santa Fe for $700!

Craigslist AD > 1996-2004 Toyota Tacoma Supercharger

I drove up there to have a look at it on Monday. Here's the breakdown for anyone who's interested:

Parts that are present:

Supercharger - it appears to be in good physical shape, no cracked mounting points, etc. It is leaking quite a bit of oil from the nose cone, and there is some marring of the mating surface where it meets the intake manifold, but I think it would still seal up ok. The bypass valve is in good shape. The boost port at the back of the S/C is clogged with mud, so it appears that the S/C may have been exposed to the elements after removal. He indicated that he bought his Tacoma with the S/C installed, and that the engine failed shortly after purchase (no compression on multiple cylinders). He said the prev owner had the S/C installed less than 5k miles before sale. I HIGHLY doubt this is accurate based on the amount of oil leakage from the nose cone, and the amount of oil/residue visible within the intake/exhaust ports on the S/C. This S/C has some miles on it for sure.

Dynamic Tensioner & Bracket - The tensioner is worn, the pulley is rusty and will need to be replaced, and hex head on the shorter bolt for the bracket is stripped out a bit. It's a flat head, hex drive bolt, so that could be an issue with getting it torqued down properly.

Belt - worn, but in usable condition.

The dipstick re-location bracket is there, along with the bolts from the throttle body to the S/C. He is also including the throttle body in the sale.

He is MISSING everything else aside from what is mentioned above. I figured that at minimum, it would require:

-A new nose cone assembly
-An install kit
-New Belt
-New Tensioner and mounting bolt
-Disassembly and inspection (due to mud in the boost port, who knows what got inside the blower... dirt, rocks, leaves, mice?)

I offered the guy $450 for it, with plans to re-work it and sell for a little profit. He didn't bite on that offer and we went our separate ways. I got the feeling he'd probably go for $600.

Just FYI.

You were right, Nick.

Hey Slapchop, I'm not sure if you guys take pictures when you go out, but if so, I know I wouldn't mind seeing some. It's cool to see some of that NM scenery during those times when I can't get out myself.

So did you buy it? I noticed that it sold.

Just saw this post. Dang. At least you've got one on the way.

I'd be glad to help, but I haven't been to the bank in months. Everything is so easy to do on line these days.

Here is a little footage from this past weekend. It is all shot and edited on my iphone so not great quality but hope you enjoy. Nothing too crazy.

Slapchop nice video dude! Impressive that you filmed and edited all from your phone. I hope to get up to ABQ soon and hit some trails with yall.

A few of us Alamogordo guys went out this weekend to one of our local trails Rattle snake canyon to find some new harder stuff, and boy did we find it! It took us about 2+ hrs to go 1/4 mile! LOL

Here is a small slide show, this pix don't do it justice really, but it was a awesome trail! We all got a little damage, but nothing to cry about.

Is anyone doing anything on sat this weekend? I am wanting to go out somewhere, and all I really know is puerco. Post up if you want to go do something Saturday or if you have recommendations on where I should go.

Did a bit more wheeling this weekend, and in the process my rear axle seal finally blew out, it has leaked a few mo ago, then stopped, but now it just started again, but a lot more came out this time and it started to make my brake grab so bad that today I had to put it in 4wd low to move it! LOL So I just finished reading the 3000 page awesome post that BigFishAllDay did. What a write up! Thanks for that! So other then that, any other tips? Hopefully the bumper and fenders will be finished this week, then I can start on the CVs and Axle seal.

New to the site , ready to go wheeling!

Hoping to get together this summer and get the wheels dirty! Also wouldn't mind having a abq meet n greet somewhere , we can get the trucks out and make some trail plans! YOTALUV!
