I was at Wally word today and saw that they have a new 5 w30 mobil 1 syn out for truck and suv.any one here try it? is is the same stuff as the regular mobil 1 syn?? it was price the same as the regular m1 syn.

So if I buy 5W30, which by the way is what I use, it would be $4.50 @ Costco and $5.40 @ Wal-Mart for one quart. Of course I am not sure what the price is at my Costco, heck it could be more. I think we are in a bit of an inflationary time and it is hard to know what tomorrow will bring. So I think for right now $4.50 a quart is good.

Mobil 1 has a 5W40 T&SUV oil (similar or the same as Delvac 1 HDEO) that is a top-notch product. The trouble is, people read their owner's manuals and see that 5W30 is most likely recommended, so that's what they want to buy - especially if their vehicle is still under warranty.
For that reason, the 5W30 T&SUV monicker isn't a bad idea from a marketing standpoint. I haven't see a Product Data Sheet or virgin oil analysis on it yet, but there is a good chance that it may be a stouter formulation than the regular M1, even though I believe it is "SM" rated.
The Mobil 1 EP (extended performance) is probably a better oil than either the regular M1 or 5W30 T&SUV. However, because of its formulation, it is "SL" rated and doesn't receive the API "Starburst" as an energy conserving oil. Therefore, it is not recommended for use in vehicles under warranty because many manufacturers specify that only an API "Starburst" oil meets their warranty requirements.

Where have you found new Mobil1. I checked Mobil1 website - nothing new.

I actually bought some of that today, but I bought it for a reason...
For some reason, the regular synth 5w-30 they have at walmart doesn't have a API seal where it says whether or not it is energy conserving on the bottles. It has it on the 1 quart bottle of the same stuff but not the 5q.
The gold cap EP 5w-30 says it, but it's $26.98 a jug and I just wanted the regular stuff for $20.98. After looking for a bit, I saw the SUV stuff that was 5w-30 synth, and said energy conserving on the API stamp so I bought it.
It was the same price as the regular 5w-30 at $20.98.
I seriously doubt I'll be able to tell any differences.

I believe I read something somewhere that Mobil, and some other oil companies, had to change the formulation of their motor oils because of problems caused by Hurricane Katrina.
I am not sure if it has to do with the basestock, the add pack or both. Apparently, if an oil's formulation is changed, it loses the API Energy Conserving designation until it can be tested and certified.
I believe this is only a temporary situation, but the oil on the shelves where you shopped may have been packaged during the time frame when Mobil 1 needed to change its formulation and lost its API designation.
As an aside, I've read that the Mobil 1 EP will now be "SM" rated instead of "SL" rated as it was originally. I guess that means Mobil has changed EP's formulation, and not necessarily for the better.
