New muffler and cat?

Hey all,

I'm wondering if I need a new muffler and catalytic converter. I have 233k on my 4Runner, and it's likely the original parts. My muffler has a little hole from a rock likely so it leaks water (?) sometimes, but otherwise it's pretty damn rusty. If so, any recommended mufflers to get that are decent quality but not heinously expensive?

I'm wondering about the catalytic converter too. How does one test for that?

I may just be looking for things to do on the 4Runner too...so tell me to leave it alone if that's what you'd recommend.

Cheers!

If the muffler has a hole I would recommend finding a local shop who can make a new stainless cat back. Local usually costs less and last a lot longer than aftermarket systems. While they have it off they can also check out the cat for you possibly. A plugged cat would usually smell and cause performance issues as well as throw codes for O2 sensor readings.
I have seen some posts where people buy the Stainless Walkers systems, but they only last about a year. I imagine a Yota cat back would probably be very expensive.
