New Nav Unit Installed Pioneer AVIC-X920BT

So i finally pulled the trigger and upgraded my nav unit. i chose the Pioneer AVIC-X920BT mostly for the brand name, the features and price. it was $1000 before a $100 rebate from Pioneer.
The unit has bluetooth, voice activation, iPod, video from iPod, DVD playback, Pandora radio, touch screen....
So far im 80% happy with it. I have an old school 120gb iPod and it seems to have some issues with the unit. it freezes some times or restarts. If i use my iPhone for Bluetooth Audio, Pandora or even iPod it works good. The voice recognition seems to work good. i havent had many issues unlike a lot of the reviews have said. I did the bypass to allow for movies to play and being able to enter an address while the car is moving. The nav part struggles, it doesnt find the shortest route at all. the POI that are pre-loaded are weak so i use the name search feature the most. I added the Metra Axxess steering wheel control interface, and thanks to this awesome thread i was able to find the wires in the UR with no issues. I wired a back up camera but i have yet to install that. I didnt need a dash kit thanks to the UR already having one.

I'm on the fence between this unit and the JVC Navi. Have you had any problems since your last post? How long is start-up? Is the Navi easy to use? I've read that this unit isn't very intunitive, but you can't always trust the people posting reviews.

JVC? im not familiar with that one. it was between this and the kenwood for me. the nav part of this unit is not all that fantastic but it will get you there. the rest of the features are just awesome though. start up is a little slow but it is with all units. i would say 20secs or so. i still have some iPod issues but oh well. i live with it since its not all of the time. overall im happy with it and glad i upgraded to this. it is money well spent, especially on long snowboard road trips.

I just bought a truck that already had this system installed. I have a couple of questions. Did the new system come with a microphone or was it separate? I do not have a mic. Also do you have to purchase your own GPS antenna? When I try to set the GPS it tells me there is no antenna. I am new to this stuff, so any help would be awesome. Thanks

Hi Tony-

I have a similar unit, the pioneer AVIC z130bt. My unit did come with a microphone which has a little clip on it so it attaches under the ceiling right below the windshield. It has a long cable so it snakes down the A-pillar under the dash and into the back of the unit. It looks like a headphone jack, or maybe a little smaller.

The GPS antenna also came with my unit, again long cable with a little square shaped antenna at the end. It sits behind my dash and has been rock solid and accurate for almost 2 years. It has a long cable, with some sort of unique plug; i believe on mine, the plug is green, small and square shaped.
