New Nitto Questions

Got my new 4runner 3 days ago. I just put new Nitto Terra Grapplers on My '05 Limited. The stock wheels were the duelers 265/65/17. When they put the Nittos on they put on 265/75/ 17. I love the way they look, but as I drove them, the truck does not feel as stable at all. I don't feel as in control. and it feels really loose, it also appears not to grip on acceleration quite as well.
My question is.. is the extra size of the tires what is causing this, do other Nitto TG Owners feel this in theirs? Would I be better to go with the Revos to reduce that. Or is it just the size issue? Since they are all terrains maybe all all terrains feel that way? They are not loud or anything, they just don't feel right. Also, do any of you have any pictures of Revos on your rig? Thanks all for the help!

You probably mean: 265/70/17, right?? I think that what you're feeling is the bigger tire along with all-terrain tread. I would check your tire pressure IMMEDIATELY...and make sure that it is not out of whack. I would still stick with factory tire pressures and if you still don't like it, then try 35 psi all around.

Give it a week and see how you like it....

Yeah, that is what I meant 265/70/17. I will try your advice and give it another week. I may have to shave down some of the wheel well also as it is rubbing in some turns...

YES!! Go down on the pressure and drive again...i bet that you would feel a big difference.

BTW, who put on your Nitto tires??

Wow, idiots. Why would they put them to 55psi? They put you at potentially serious risk. They aren't legally allowed to go over the stock recommendation on the door jam. I keep mine around 34-35 but they wouldn't go over 32 so I had to do it myself after I got home. Whoever filled your tires was a complete moron.

Going from 32psi to 35psi makes a noticeable difference, let alone 32 psi compared to 55 psi. Holy hell, no wonder you feel less control. I bet you feel every pebble in the road.
 
I've got about 35k on my Nittos and never have had any issues with them. I run mine at 35psi and they are wearing very well.
 
It is surprising that Discount Tire people would put that much psi in the tires! :( It must have been a new guy or something.
 
I was also wondering if any of you had taken off the front mud flaps? The new tires are rubbing quite a bit in most sharper turns, I was interested to know how it looked, or if there was a better way to create space, or just not to worry about it.. thanks
 
I run mine at 38 PSI and have no issues. It's a perfect balance of ride and MPG. I've been running the Nittos for 30,000 miles and they NEVER disappoint. I also made the switch from the Duelers and did not experience any of the concerns you're having. Lower the tire pressure and enjoy.

Are you sure they are rubbing on the mudflaps, and not the front? Either way it's an easy fix. Many people have removed their mudflaps. It would only take you a few minutes to take them off, and put them back on again. So you can always test it to see if you like the look. If they are rubbing on the front (which is my guess) then all you have to do is trim the plastic a little. All the plastic does is help keep dirt out, so it doesn't hurt anything to cut it. A simple kitchen knife will suffice.
 
Thanks Guys...I'm going to try both of those options, right after i head over to Discount Tire and ask them why there is so much air in my tires
 
went over to discount tire, and the guy there was very surprised i had that much air in it. He took it down to 40psi, he said because it was 10 ply that this was low enough. the difference is amazing, i feel like i am driving a totally different truck. I am really glad, because I wanted to like the Nittos, but couldn't stand them the way they drove, I am now a very happy camper. thanks for all the advice.
