New on the scene

Just picked up this 88 SR5. I have been around toyota trucks/landcruisers for quite awhile but never a 4Runner owner. So I'm pretty excited about this one. Always admired them since my first which was an 88 22RE 4X4 pickup.

Lots to list here so here are some of the particulars:
22RTE w/ garret t3
5spd
SAS w/ yukon birfield illiminator kit(never heard of this one so we'll see how that goes)
The rear spiders are welded(not a fan of that, considering Aussie lockers... input needed)
Detroit true-track up front
V6 third members
Trail gear daul transfer setup /twin sticks
Chromoly axles F&R
All Pro 4" up front and 5" in rear
Currently running 36"X13.50's IROKs

This rig was in stock form with a V-6 2 years ago when the PO started building it. The interior is in great shape, no pics yet(sorry). I am located in Portland, OR. Just found this awsome site and getting excited to find out all I can about these sweet rigs.

Thanks,

Scott

Sounds like a nice rig. This is my first time posting to this forum. The turbo is a nice addition, expecially because it should have the turbo trans, lower first gear and higher spline count.
I'd personally ditch the eliminator kit and go back to the birfs, get a set of Longfields. The eliminator kit essentially gets rid of the ball design of the birflied and replaces it with something similar to a dana 44 front axle. The problem I see with running this setup is when you break them, and you will break them. There will me a ton more spare birfields and inner axles around on the trails than the setup you have.
Good luck with the truck!

I have those same thoughts thoughts about parts availability and being able to repair on the trail. I plan to have spares with me on the longer trips. Only time will reveal whats in store for me here.

Super nice, good score man.
I'm also not a fan of welded spiders, tire wear and street driveability can really suck. The aussie locker would be better for street driving but for the ultimate go with an ARB or two.

The auto lockers are definately tempting for the price, but the ARB is where I have my sights set. I was recenlty wondering about the availability of the toyota e-locker set up, price, fit, etc.. Anyone have any light to shed here?

The E-locker is another good choice, a little clearancing of the housing is needed to clear it. There is lots of information online (Pirate, Yotatech etc..)
