I am the proud new owner of an '06 SR5 V6 4-Runner. This being my first Toyota (Have wanted one for years....) Could not afford a Limited with all the toys, so I am looking to creatively add some of the perks. I need a little guidance...
Here are my questions in no particular order.
The few accessoriies (that I don't already have) I am interested in adding are as follows:
- HomeLink console
- Electronic Mirror
- Security System
I really do not want to do a lot of non-standard splcing of wiring etc. (Not that I am uncomfortable with wiring, I just would like the vehicle to remain as stock as possible - it is a company car) Here's the question: If I buy the HomeLink and the Electronic Mirror from Toyota or PartzNet.com, do they plug right into a harness that is hiding up in the ceiling? Regarding the security system, is the RS3200 system a simple plug the unit into some harnesses already installed in the car or am I ripping up carpet, etc to run wire everywhere and pick up contacts etc.
Final question:
I really wanted to get the NAV, but it was only available with the Limited in my area. I have been looking closely at the Pioneer units. I think I would lean toward the D2 or the Z1 (Not sure if the Z1 even fits) The question is really as above...how much cutting, splicing etc to put this unit in. Are there factory harness adapters available aftermarket that will allow me to install this unit without cutting into wiring. I may want to take the unit with me and will want to re-install the old stereo later.
There are some great pictures of some of the NAV installs here, I am just not sure how much electrical modification was necessary. Any online resources or feedback would be appreciated.
In speaking with a friend of mine, he spoke about being very careful about tapping wiring for source voltage as there is a fair amount of communcation wiring that is signaling between computers in the vehicle. This vehicle has under 200 miles on it and it makes me sick to my stomach to think of screwing up the wiring.
