Be careful when purchasing these because they came in 15" and 16" versions.

Do the ball joints before you do much else. In addition to the Toyota Owners site some maintenance from independent shops will show up on Carfax. My mechanic records repairs that show up there. I don't think you mentioned mileage but the timing belt ought to be changed every 100k.

These rigs are great. I have a 99 and 00 limited. I like the TBU as my calipers were seized anyways, and will do it on the second one soon once some brake pad wears down more.

I wouldn't be too worried about the pink milkshake just because trans was flushed at the same time....wouldn't be surprised if simply they were in a freshen up the fluids phase and the top of the radiator was showing green/cracking plastic so it was all done at once.

Depending on how you are sitting, I think my favorite "mod" so far has just been suspension restoration. Get the lower ball joints done with OEM parts (pricey, but the job is easy to do yourself so that makes up for it), but then depending on your suspension situation, I'd look to replace the shocks and springs and get a couple of inches back to where it should be, or take it up just slightly if you want. It will ensure you can full clear 265/75/16 tires.

Consider spending $40 and buy/instal new fuel filter. Those things gunk up over 20years. Get Toyota oem - not mod, but best easy maintenance that makes big difference!

I always knew these 99 rims to be referred to as 5-star rims.

Those are the most elegantly-simple and classy rims on Toyota's. Five is just right - Notice how many rolling office chairs have 5 legs?

That being said, this would not be my first choice of location, but I don't wheel and I can see why out of the way is preferred, but I would go with a frame rail if I were to do this.

I knew i wanted it up high and in the engine bay but space is kind of limited. The firewall had no clear spots and the drivers side was more of the same. When i took the airbox out for that "type-r" filter, i had tons of room. So i put it there. Couldnt be happier.
This car dosent go off roading of cross any rivers. So i wasnt too concerned about the open filter and open valve cover breather filter and tbings of that nature.

I think my projector retrofit was the most meaningful mod I've done so far. Halos and LED mini lightbars on the filler plates under the headlights are my DRL solution to running my headlights all the time. Clear corners with amber LEDs was just for fun but look boss, IMO.
