I picked a 1995 4runner with 182,000 on it for 1,000. The top end of the motor was rebuild around 156,000. The body and frame are in good shape the back bumper was rusted out as must of them are but I have already replaced that along with a 2" lift and 31's on it every thing works well other then the transmission. I will add some pictures of it at the end of this post. My question is this the transmission was replaced a little over 3000 to 4000 miles ago by a transmission shop while the preserves owner had it. It ran fine then after 1000 to 2000 miles it started throwing the A/T Fuild light so they changed the inter-cooler for it and did a flush then it started not shifting out of high gear when it got warm. So the day I pick it up i checked the fluid while it was cold and it was fine. I drove it down the road and back and check it when it was warm and it was hardly on the dip stick so I add a little over a quart to it. Am thinking it had a air bubble in it. For the most part it works fine I have but around 300 miles on it but ever so often after I go to the store or stop for gas it acts like it stuck in a high gear the funny thing about it is you can stick it 4 low and it works and after it change throw all the gears you can put it back in 2wd and i will work fine other then a little jump at the start. I also don't think it has the power in the lower gears that it should. I have stop by the auto parts stores and the web and no one seem to know what is wrong with it, am not willing to take it back to the transmission shop because that seem to be when it all started and the cost of having the work on it would be crazy. I have thought about changing it over to a 5 speed I know i would half to change the computer out and add the clutch to it. I would like any input on what might be wrong with this transmission and if anyone has took the job on of changing over to a manual transmission. I really do want to get the old girl fixed because i think she has a lot of life left to give.
