Need help with noise please

UPDATE: I zeroed in on the alternator, the noise actually stopped after I made a dealer appointment. I decided that the replacement wasn't worth the hassle of me doing it this time. Got the dealer down to $750 so not too bad. Now about that spiral cable throwing airbag codes..grrr....

Hey everyone:

My 5th gen 180,000 miles has started making this noise that's pretty distinct and someone here has probably heard this before ??

Coming from the drivers side engine compartment (front) and changes with RPM's, doesn't go away after warming up.

I don't have a stethoscope but thinking it's one of the pulleys, pump or such, everything is stock.

At 180k miles, a distinct noise on the driver's side front of the engine that changes with RPM is highly likely a failing idler pulley bearing, the belt tensioner, or the power steering pump

Thanks, someone also suggested the alternator so I'm going to buy a stethoscope

Not much bass so not much energy like that of a rod knock. Something light weight w/ a higher frequency pitch. So yeah, pulley, bearing, etc. A real stretch but valve train component?

Idler pulley bearing would be more of a scream. Easy to test. Just undo the serp belt and check for play in the pulley.

What he said. Failing bearings can be felt fairly easily and many times heard when spinning by hand.
