New owner questions

Hey guys I bit ye bullet today and bought a 97 3.4l limited with e locker for just under 4k. I'm already in love! Everything I want in a truck. Besides the faulty starter it only starts up every 3 or 4 cranks. But it does always start.

The PO said he never had a problem with this which I feel is unlikely, but could taking it to the car wash had anything to do with it not being 100%

My diagnosis is: took it to the car wash got the engine area wet and disrupted a ground or hot wire somewhere.

Any suggestions what to look for? I'd rather not have to take the dreaded stated out of its cave

Can you explain this a little better? Do you mean you have to turn the key 3 or four times before the starter does anything? (This would likely be worn starter solenoid contacts, common problem/easy fix). Or do you mean you have to turn the engine over 3 or four times before it catches and runs? (This could be a couple of different things. Does it do it hot, cold, or all the time?)

I would like to say that the car wash, manual or machine has nothing to do with any thing.

I way my 4Runner more than anyone else I know washes their vehicle and it's never had any issue related to or from the wash.
