New Owner

Hi all,

Last Tuesday I picked up my first 4Runner, a Nautical Blue '17 SR5 Premium. I'm excited to have the truck and be a part of the community. A little back story...

I came from a 2012 VW GTI (manual, Autobahn trim with many mods). I loved the car to death, but a combination of spine and knee issues forced me to get something with more driver's space. I looked at 15-20 different cars (in an effort to find something on the sportier side), but nothing came close to fitting. Once I decided on a Truck/SUV, the 4Runner was tops on my list along with the Tacoma. Both were nice, but the 4Runner had way more room for me and rode better, so the hunt was on! I looked at quite a few CPO cars before realizing that the price gap between used and new was so minimal, that it just made sense to get a new one. My car was a leftover '17 that the dealer gave me a great deal on.

I probably won't go too crazy with mods for now as I have a loan to pay off, but I'm definitely going to be reading through all the builds looking to create my "perfect build". Hopefully when the time comes, I'll have my parts list all lined up!

Sheeeeet, you might as well give-up that thought. You hang around here for about a week and your wanna-do list will develop a heartbeat...it's the small easy things that get you hooked and then you're like...."I wish I hadda gone with 1.75 on my Bilsteins and waited for the cornfed spacers..."

Ain't that the truth? Went through the same thing back in May 2017 and finally just went with a "old" new stock 2016 Trail Edition during Memorial Day weekend. Welcome aboard: from one newb to another.

Thanks man! I really was pretty surprised. It quite literally ended up being a $200 difference between used and new. It was a no-brainer!

Believe me, the build sheet has already started haha. There are a lot of things that I'd love to do, but I'm trying to take it slow on this one for exactly what you mentioned above. On my previous car, I wasted a lot on parts i didn't need, things that didn't end up working for me, etc. I'd rather try and keep things to a minimum this time and see what I really need vs. modding for modding's sake. Truth be told, my plan is to get some sort of real project at some point and leave this as a (mostly) stock daily driver. I really need to find cheaper hobbies than cars and watches lol...

Congrats on the new purchase! At least you told her before you bought it haha. If I start modding, my girlfriend will look at me like I'm a giant crustacean from the Paleolithic era asking for $3.50...
She should've known what she was getting into!!!

Ha didn't even last a month! Definitely a subtule and purposeful upgrade. Way better than a spacer lift. Congrats

Thanks! I promised myself not to do too much, but coming from my modded MK6 GTI the nose dive is horrible. I don't have any interest in a true lift (for now), so this is solely for ride/handling/braking purposes.
