The tread design looks like the "wussified" version of the Bridgestone Dueler REVO. I don't see how this tire is any more off-road capable than Michelin LTX M/S, Bridgestone Dueler H/L, or Goodyear Fortera. It is clearly a highway SUV tire.

If you were to go for these tire, then i would get the tires i mentioned above...more proven.
 
I wouldn't consider any of those tires for even occasional off road use but if I racked up a lot of pavement miles a year I would consider the Michelins LTX or the Bridgestone Dueler H/T but since I don't rack up more than 10k a year on my truck the Nittos are surprisingly a good tire on the street,look agressive and handle the occasional intermediate off road trip as a set of BFGs would but at a much better price.
 
I am not really looking for an off road tire. I have a dedicated trail truck with swampers.....so my toyota stays on the pavement or easy dirt roads and is used as a tow truck for the wheeler. So, I dont want to go up in tire size and lose power and throw off my speedo, but I would not mind a slightly more aggressive tread than the stock stones or Michelin cross terrains. My first choice would be the revos, but I cant get those for a good deal becuase I have no "connection" with a bridgeston dealer. I can get goodyears, pirellis, procomp, michelins, and yokohamas for dealer cost but unfortunately not bridgestones.
 
How can one determine how well an A/T tire will perform by looking at the treads?

Look at the Revo for example. It doesn't look any more aggressive than the all-season BFG Rugged Trails. Does that mean the Rugged Trails will perform as well as the all-terrain Revos?
 
You can look at the tread of a BFG AT and tell it will have bad wet manners since there's no water evacuation pattern to them. I think ATs for real off roading should have heaviily shouldered blocks or lugs and have the sidewall protection and HT tires which can handle off road won't fair very well in the long run but for non agressive trails HTs are generally fine.

I bought the Scorpian A/T's back in '02 & 65,000 miles later they still have pleanty of meat on them. They are way better than the Badyear Wranglers that were OEM. No more hydroplaning. It felt like I got new springs/shocks when I put them on. I highly recomend them.

PS. I went to the 275 70 R16's from the 265's & they fit fine.
