New Porsche Carrera and Carrera S

I believe this is going to be designated the 997. It's not a complete redesign, but an update.

Carrera:
3.6L 325hp, 274 ft-lbs. 0-62mph in 5.0s
17.5mpg City, 34.9mpg hwy

Carrera S:
3.8L 355hp, 296 ft-lbs. 0-62 in 4.8s
16.5mpg City, 33.6mpg hwy

Looks like a cross between the 996 and the 993 body styles. They also brought back the classic round headlights. :thumb:

I know a lot of you guys are BMW lovers / drivers, but I thought you might be interested in the next Porsche update.

Is it just me or are those gas mileage figures rediculous?

Those MPG looks strange...too wide between city and highway mpg's. My M3 gets 16 city/23 highway.

I like the look...however, the engine output is not that impressive. The M3's 3.2L I6 engine makes 333 hp and 262 torque.

The power curves for Porsche's NA engines are usually pretty flat. Maybe the new Carrera has a greater area under its curve than the M3. I don't know because I've never driven a new M3 or even seen the power curves.

My M3 engine makes at least 80% of it's peak torque from 2000 rpms to redline (8000 rpms). It makes about 70% of torque at 1000 rpms.

Oh, i am sure that the Porsche engines, esp. the 3.8L engine, has a flatter torque curve. However, the M3 engine is not too shabby either. Although M3 engine can rev up to 8000 rpms, it is far from being a peaky engine (aka Honda S2000, where you have no power under 6000 rpms). The M3 engines makes decent power down low.
