New Radio/Player question

Hello, I just my first car and I'm wondering if upgrading from my stock player will upgrade the sound quality by a good amount?

In order words, will it be worth dishing out like $100-$150 for a new player/tuner?

Or should I venture into ugprading my car in different ways such as subs and other stuff first?

i think the best improvement would come from the head unit.
