New radio with stock speakers?

Hello all, I am getting rather sick of having my CD player skip while going over the smallest bumps, so is it possible for me to buy an aftermarket "head unit" JVC, Pioneer, Etc. and use all my stock speakers? I don't wanna buy a whole new system, just a new unit. how would i go about doing this? Thanks! OH, BTW, its a 95 SR5 Limited V6

sure thing.....you'll need a wire harness, antena adapter and a mounting kit (mounting kit not needed if you buy a double din head unit)

All righty, sounds good, how much extra are we talking with that? I don't want an expensive set up, prolly just like a $50 unit, and i don't wanna spend a whole lot. Also could you provide some links as to where i can find this stuff? Thanks!

I would not try splicing the factory wiring.....Bad Idea.....spend the 10 bucks on the wiring harness......you can find one at any place that sells car audio equipment

Come to think of it, i think i might have seen one at our local WalMart, any way, i couldn't find the exact mounting plate i was wanting, i want one with One Din for the radio, and then like a pocket under it. Where can i get one of these?

try circuit city or best buy or sound advice....some store like that.....should be like 15.00 or so

Circuit City also sells a 'quick connector' harness, where you buy a harness for your truck, and a new one for the radio, and they just plug together so that you don't even need to splice any wires, it can make things a little more simple. I'm also fairly sure you won't need an antenna adapter, as Toyota uses the standard motorola plug for antennas. Toyotas are also about the easiest vehicles to mount a radio in, as it only needs to be screwed to the mounting plates, and you won't need the sleeve that comes with the radio.

I was looking in the NAPA catalog (I work at NAPA) and they have a Toyota mounting kit that is about $12 and it does Double Din to Single, and also a Harness Adapter for another $12, so i guess i can order everything i need through my store lol

I recently picked up an inexpencive, (under $100), "Sony" CD palyer from Circuit City, that sounds really good with the stock speakers in my '90 T4R.
I had them install it, and, the harness was around $15...free labor though...it sounds suprizingly nice!

thats funny that they offer a double din kit, since a double din radio would be a direct replacement of the factory radio

No, its the size of the Double Din, with one spot for the new Radio, and the other one, a pocket type thing.

-spent a few hours today installing amp/subs. the dash was real fun to pull apart. you gotta take off the entire lower dash, it sucks!

ah...i see what you were saying......i thought you sayed they made a mounting kit for a double din radio for when your replacing with a new double din......i was gonna say anything to make a buck now a days off people who are willing to spend...lol...i use to do car audio install for 6yrs....fun work if you have an idea of what your doin....
