New rear brakes

Just had new rear brakes installed and rotors turned last Saturday at the dealers. Now it feels like the front are doing most of the braking. My nose dives down when applying the brakes and it lurches back at a stop. Called the dealer and "they don't understand how this could be". I know I am not crazy. Can the brakes be easily adjusted to remedy this?

bump for ya... mine kinda does the same thing, doesn't sound quite as bad as yours though. I just took mine in for a brake job and the garage said I needed new front pads and rotors. Then I asked about the rear and they said the rears looked brand new. This was after 50K, so it tells me that the front and rear are not working together. So I would like to know the answer as well.

Well the dealer said one of the rear rotors was not as smooth as it could have been and turned it a little more. Now it does feel better. In regards to the fronts wearing quicker, I think it is true of most vehicles. Especially 4x4 since they have even more weight in the front.

I understand that the front brakes wear out faster than the rears, but after 50,000 miles I would at least expect the rear pad to be at least 1/2 way down. Though mine doesnt nose down really bad, I was just wondering.

There is actually very little braking done in the rear. The front brakes do approx 80% of your braking. Also the 4Runner has a computer that distributes the braking between the front and rear depending on conditions. The rear brakes should last a very long time before needing the pads to be changed. At the next MV inspection you may want to observe the braking test and see how much braking is actually going to the rear.

I just did a rear brake job. The pads, to my surprise, were shot at 67,000 miles.

The rear brakes should dissipate less energy to compensate for weight shift forward under decel but remember these brakes are also sized smaller to balance rotor temperature performance and hopefully life.

I have a 2005 V8 SE and I need new brakes ALL AROUND at 21,500 miles. I guess this doens't sound right by reading everyone elses post...

My 2003 4Runner (2WD, V8) still has the original brake pads on all 4 wheels after 50k miles and it seems that they still have a long way to go.
