NEW Rear Storage Compartment, We Need Your Input!

Since I mentioned both sides, thought I would throw this idea out there to Wanderlust and developer.
Create a squared indention on both sides in order that someone could buy two (Left and Right) hit the hardware store and add their own shelf if they so desired with whatever material wanted.
As I said, Just and idea/thought.

I use all four tie down d-rings for my storage and frig slide as most people do that have storage systems. Flush to the kick out area would be better
I feel access to the storage that is already there could be better
Maybe two parts, the rear can lift out?
Not crazy about the plastic latches. A recessed metal latch that you could add a padlock to would last longer. Plastic clips will wear out with a lit f use

Agreed one large lid for better access if it is one piece
Power cable pass throughs on passenger side
Top aluminum molle lid. Tabs slide into a slot and recessed metal (lockable) latches hold it in place. Allows you to mount stuff to the top and pass cables through. More functionality
That said, a design that utilized aluminum instead on injection molding would save a lot in tooling. With forming you could still have a nice form factor with radiuses corners and edges

I have third row seating and Cali Raised LED molle panels, so chances are, it wouldn't work for me at all.
If it did though, I would prefer the drivers side and to keep the passengers side electric easily accessible.
As for magnets vs. latches to keep it closed, magnets can be a PITA if you have anything that might stick to a magnet in the rear of the vehicle. My 4Runner is my fishing vehicle, so baits, hooks, pliers, my removable nav lights....it's all back there at some point and all of those could potentially find their way to the magnet. My preference would be to use dzus fasteners. Easy to remove and it would hold the panel securely in place.
