I think hybrids are supposed to get more miles per gallon in the city, aren't they? How much is that environmental protection package costing you?Jeffrey_VB said:

If I remember right, that, undercoating, and key replacement was right at $900.
Supposedly protects the paint from fading and loss of gloss from exposure to sun, acid rain, tree sap, and bird droppings.

Yeah, the hybrids are pretty cool, but if you really factor out the actual benefits, it's not really all that advantageous. Plus, currently, I don't think the battery technology is up to par, which is also a big environmental concern when it comes time to dispose of the batteries.

I think most new cars have pushbutton start these days,hybrid or non-hybrid. It's getting harder to find new vehicles with the old style ignition.

Before you do anymore stuff from the dealer, you need to ask this forum. I know that it's a done deal already, but what the dealer just did amounts to them robbing you of your money.
The stuff does not do much of anything...sorry.

Personally, when it comes to paint protection and the undercarriage I am from the "Old School".
Give the 4Runner a GOOD, HAND washing along with periodic waxing.
In the winter I will use a wand car wash, if I really must, to get the salt and chemicals off.
I do try to avoid the car wash especially if they "recycle" the water.
Keep after paint chips with touch up paint.
When the undercarriage starts to rust (which many 4Runners seem to do) I use POR15 on it.
Anyway, to each their own I suppose.

I rented a Prius once. Acceleration was good, and I had the same feelings about how it operated. I drove 100 highway miles and got about 37mpg. I think I would save the extra 7000-8000 dollars and buy a Corolla or Civic. They won't be efficient enough to justify it until they come out with a plug in series hybrid.

Yes, it can be painted after it dries. It is VERY important that one follows the instructions as to preparation for and application of the product.
Over the years I have seen occassional complaints about POR15's performance.
In 99.9% of these cases the person doing the complaining did not follow the directions for it's use.
Also note on their web site that POR15 does require a top coat because UV rays can damage it.
Also be advised that it is EXTEMELY IMPORTANT to follow ALL the safety precautions when using this product with regard to proper ventiliation and protective gear.
BTW, my brother used this product on his 12 year old Nissan Sentra. He had a rust problem in his trunk that he used the POR15 on and it worked very well. I used it on a vehicle I own over 8 years ago and it has held up well. These are just two of the many reasons why I used it on the undercarriage of my 4Runner.
