I got a copy of their 2017 catalog they were passing out at the show. See photo. I will reach out to the rep I spoke to at the show and get more release details. Post up any questions anyone else has and I will ask.

I see there is a ladder clipped on the side of the rack (by the rear driver cargo window). Do you have any observations to share about that? thanks!

Yes, the ladder was attached at the top with a flip hinge and then another set of hinges in the middle of the ladder. You would basically just flip the ladder up on top and then flip it back down for use. Pretty slick I thought. Was not very heavy duty but for the average person I think it would work just fine.

Here are details I got back from the sales rep at Rhino Rack. Super guy - gave me tons of details. I really like the look of the Rhino 60". I don't think I want a full top rack - I'm not a serious enough user to warrant it. Here's his comments:

Per the backbone you saw at SEMA, currently we are awaiting on the parts to be completed and ready to sell. Parts are already in process and this system will be available at the beginning of 2017. Right now no pricing has been confirmed yet. We imagine it to be on par with our FJ BackBone system with pioneer platform. With the 4-Runner BackBone, we will offer two different lengths of Pioneer Platform racks for integration. Part number 42100B is 60” in length and will be as long as the BackBone extrusion itself. Part number 42102B is 76” in length, so it will cantilever out a bit past the BackBone extrusion.
Please keep in mind though that what I am detailing above is specific for the BackBone extrusion (which will be available in Q1). In the meantime, we do currently offer our track system for the 4-Runner which mounts using dedicated fixed points on the vehicle once the elevated factory rails are removed. The nice thing about this track system is that it runs the entire length of the vehicle down to the windshield. (The BackBone stops about ¾ of the way down). With the track in place, customers can then mount our RTL600 track-mount legs and incorporate either crossbars, or one of the dedicated Pioneer Platform options. Part number 42107B is an 84” platform that can be used with the tracks because you can add legs closer to the front of the vehicle in the track to provide added support. This 84” platform will not work with the BackBone because there is no support up front. It would cantilever out 2’ past where the BackBone stops so there wouldn't be sufficient support for the front.
Bottom line is this:

Here is info on the track itself (PN RTS545). Once you have the track, you can either put cross bars or stick a tray on the track with spacers directly.

Don't mean to bump an old thread, but we've just finished the first quarter of 2017. Has anyone installed the full length Rhino Rack yet, either the track system or BackBone?

I have the RLT600 track mount. So far no complaints. It's lightweight, looks good, easy to use, and gets the job done. I don't see the point of a traditional roof rack if all I'm mounting is an RTT and an awning.
I have three cross bars, but currently only hardware for two. I'll mount the third once I get the hardware for it.

How did the install go? Were the instructions sufficient?

The install instructions couldn't have been more straight forward. If you know how to use basic tools, drill holes, and use a rivet gun it's a pretty easy install. It took a few hours, but I wanted to take my time and make sure I got the job done right. I would've done a write up, but the install instructions that came with it pretty much explained it all.
The instructions recommended a drill stop to prevent you from drilling into something you don't want to, but I just wrapped the drill bit in tape which worked just fine. It was a little intimidating at first, but once you get started it's really not so bad.
I've been driving with my RTT mounted on Texas highways for a few weeks now with no complaints. The system is very stable. I have yet to take it off road though. That's my true test. Speaking with an engineer over the phone at Rhino Rack gave me some peace of mind though. They recommend a three bar system if you'll be going off road, but the two bar should hold up fine as well. I'm more concerned about the RTT hardware failing before anything else. I'm currently typing this from my RTT by the way.
I went with this system for the simplicity, and above all the weight savings. I did not see the point in adding an 80+ pound roof rack to mount a 130+ pound RTT. The tracks weighed next to nothing, and the crossbars are super lightweight. I would say no more than 30 pounds total for the set of three.
