New Scion T1808 installed

I just finished installing my new T1808. I ordered it from ebay as a brand new unit. Then ordered the Scion SC12235 iPod cable. Took about an hour to install it all and it works perfectly. I followed these instructions to dismantle and reinstall: How to Remove the Navigation Head Unit from a 2003 Toyota 4Runner

Sweet man. Isn't it night and day from the stock T4R head unit?...I put my iPod cable to the glove box but that little compartment is perfect for it as well. Depending on your model of iPod, you may need to get a little adapter to make it charge when plugged in. I have a 4th Gen Nano that needed the Scosche PASSport adapter. I think it was $20 on Amazon and works great.

Definitely watching this thread as I spied a T1808 on C-list... will the T1808 accommodate the iPod Classic 80GB?
Also, will it need the adapter that krup is referring to for charging the iPod?
Any said issues with the install?,...seems straightforward from other threads on here but nonetheless all the pulling and prying of dash components gives me the chitters!
 
If you still use the radio, i hope you installed the Y-adapter for the 2 different antenna inputs. I had to go back and disassemble the dash and reinstall it.

Also, dont bend that cable too much btw. I had to send one back fo a refund cuz i was bent too much near the input jack. All of a sudden we couldnt hear the music from the ipod in the rear speakers, and had to hold it a certain way.

Good luck, and try to search for the manual on here. You can personalize the "opening screen" , so that instead of the radio reading, "SCION" when u start the truck, you could have it say whatever you like!
 
hoping to install my T1809 this weekend if i have time.

@zerowkul98, i thought most ppl did not see a difference when they only plugged in 1 of the antenna inputs?

iPod control and output I think???

I don't know about your stock radios but my Bass really sucks. I have a hard time adjusting it and it still sounds too low end for me.:barf:
 
808, i thought the same, but we noticed a HUGE difference. We were losing signal that was once STRONG AS HELL! Im in western mass, and we would get a bunch of stations, then after the t1808 install, we were lucky to pick up 3-4.

After I installed the Y-adapter + a small-to-large adapter (one of the antenna inputs is smaller than the other) now we're picking up Boston radio, which we NEVER we able to do, even with the old head unit that used both antenna inputs!

Really recommend the charger addition piece as well.

Here's a pic of the Y-Adapter i installed. Taped it nice n cleanly.

Looks good. Quick questions:
Does it plug into the existing wire harness?
Does it work with the steering wheel controls?
Most importantly how does it sound in comparison to the stock head unit? (more amps?)

Ha, I have an ipod mini, so it's charging mine. One day, I may buy a Touch because I don't have enough memory in it now and have to select which songs to sync. But all is working great.

i have not installed my T1809 yet, but from reading prior post:

1. yes, it is a direct plug and play.
2. yes, your steering wheel controls should continue to work.
3. sounds better.

if you have a 2006 and up 4R, you need to do some resister thing to get your AUX to continue to work after install.

No issues. Was just like the link as far as dismantling everything. I have had a Sequoia apart in the past though installing a NAV and backup camera so I had done this before. You really don't have to pull hard on anything to remove it. The types of clip that Toyota has used won't break. They are a slip type.
 
thanks zerowkul98. ill look into picking up a Y adapter.

im itching to install my deck, so i might just opt to run it without both antennas right now.

I didn't use the Y adapter. I thought I would try it first without it and if it affected it too much, then I would go back and add it.

I have noticed my rear volume isn't as loud as my front volume. But it is ok. I notice from looking at the doors, that the front speakers appear to be 6x9 and the rear are round, maybe 5 1/4.

I had downloaded the manual while waiting for the unit to come in.

Complete plug and play with existing wiring harness. Steering wheel controls work and it does sound much better.
