new seats

I need some options fellas.... 03 Sport V8 cloth seats are getting the (yellow crumbles) out the bottom; the side of my driver seat is too spongy for my liking. I want to move to leather seats with heat (Montana/Colorado winters)

Options:
1) I see a few wreaked Limited T4R's around that have good seats but I am not sure if my sport is pre-wired to accept the limited seats or if its just a matter of plugging them into the seat harness.

2)Buy new leather seat covers (catskin/wetokle/etc.) and lay them over the old seats (worried about the current mushiness of my seats) Maybe someone who has tried this can advise but will the seat covers strengthen it at all?

3) Can I repair the mushy and peeling seat i have now?

4) (where you come in) anything else I have not thought of yet!

Don't know about the prewiring for seat heating, but I would suggest you talk to a reputable upholstery shop in your town. If you get the leather skins they can strip off the old covers and put them on. The part you care about is the fact that they can rebuild the foam inner workings on the driver seat (and other seats, if necessary) so you get the support you want.

You may have to give up the heaters but you can certainly get your seat rebuilt.

I've often wondered if GX470 seats wpuld fit. They are comfy and have armrests.

I've looked at pictures and I think the armrests would clear the center console.

Try it and let us know!

I think its prewired for heat, if you look under the center colsole you can see all the connections. Usually auto manufacturers use one wiring harness to save on time for manufacturing the vehicle and some for costs. I have all the harnesses for DAC, heated seats, etc.

You're right, I believe they're prewired, but the GX470 idea is brilliant! I would love to do that swap myself, but my seats are still solid, so maybe 10 years from now, I might think about it. :biggrin2: If anyone ends up trying, please post the results.

Well in the effort for trying things i like the idea! If I can find them I will check it out!

also FYI- FJ seats will not fit in the 4runners (Craigslist post guy tried it on 06 and they didn't work. 470/460 should fit though)

I may just put the heater pads in myself and then just stretch new leather over it. Thanks for the help with the seat wiring! I know they try to save time but they are also getting good at cost saving where ever they can.

Interesting thread Ark. Good read. Nice to know the armrests have to be pulled. They're are one of the primary reasons I'd do the swap.

Strangely my drivers seat has recently developed a squeak near the side bolster. It's the cushion rubbing on the spring/subframe. If I shove my hand up there I can feel where it happens. Read a TSB about using a piece of felt as an insert. Might try that.
