New shocks. Alignment needed?

This is probably a dumb question but I just ordered Bilstein 4600 shocks for front and rear. Once I get them in do I need an alignment?

Yes and no. Anytime you change vehicle ride height or get new tires you should get your alignment checked/adjusted. If you are going to be close to the same height then you can probably get away with not getting an alignment.

It would be a good 'excuse' to get an alignment done, but it isn't necessary. The shocks (front and rear) do not control the alignment at all - assuming you don't lift it at the same time.

Cool - thanks for the info. It literally just got aligned when I re-did the front end and I’d rather not do it again after switching shocks.

I think what I might do is hold off on the shocks for a month and do the rear swaybar links too, and then align it again after that

Rear swaybar links won't make a difference to alignment either. Just install them whenever, especially since you got such a recent alignment.

I’m getting off topic now but what brands do you guys like for the rear swaybar links? I did OEM in the front but this vehicle only does light offroad so maybe I can save some $ on an alternate brand for the back - or is it better if they match the front?

I’m figuring these links and the shocks are my last two suspension repairs for now, and I’m hoping to move on to the valve cover leak after this.

What's wrong with the current links? If they are still OEM and the ball end is still in good condition, you can just get new bushings.

You know, they’re probably fine. I’ll double-check. I was thinking just for preventative since they are old
