New shocks, recommendations?

I have a 2002 Limited 4x4 w/ 75k and the shocks are starting to go. I do not do anything major as far as off-roading goes, just trips to the Sierras/Yosemite and up in the high country here in Arizona.

I do not mind changing the springs as well but I am wondering what a difference in suspension height will do to the overall driving performance and feel to my 4Runner.

Should I:

1. Stick with stock replacement? (shocks)

2. Should I upgrade stocks to Bils, KYB's, etc. etc.?

3. Would an inch in suspension lift from upgraded springs make a huge difference in the ride characteristics of my 4Runner? (I know the 2nd Gen. 4Runners use to tip over easier when hitting corners a little too hard...)

this is my take on this,
if you get by with what you got right now, you would be fine to go to the stock replacement. and nothing is wrong getting a Bilstein, its a good choice over stock but probably costs more.
as for the lift, of course, it'll raise the center of gravity just take it easy going through the corners.

I have changed many shocks over the years on many SUV's and I still have not found a better shock than a Bilstien (I don't know if I spelled that right)

I put 175K on my jeep and the (Bill) shocks still worked great after I sold it.

Bilsteins. Cost a little more but well worth it. Put them on my 90 last summer. Truck rides better than when it was new.
