Ok, so I have a 1996 4runner 2wd, gave this to my 16 year old son about a year ago and I drive a jeep. I have a great deal from a neighbor to buy a set of 16" Dick Cepek rims with mounted wrangler 33" x 12.50 tires that he ran on a Tacoma, 4 for $600.00. My question is since I'm presently running 31" tires on 16" rims will I need to do a body lift for clearance or is anybody running similar without problems. I temp mounted one tire tonight and they definitely look badass but the stock lug nuts would not run up on the studs so I took them back to my neighbor only to find out he has special lug nuts so I'm going to try them again tomorrow. He is giving me a good deal before he lists them on Craig's List so I'm really liking the price and the look. Any complications anyone see with this? The only off road would be driving on the beach in NC, as this is only a 2WD.

You will need some type of body lift or suspension lift to successfully run 33s on a 2WD truck. Some have done it on a stock 4WD with little rubbing, but on a 96 2WD, that'll be tough.

Cheapest options are a body lift or a spacer suspension lift. Body lift raises the center of gravity and can create body gaps. Spacer lifts are relatively cheap, can make the ride a little more harsh (not as much as some people say) and can be easier to install than the body lift.
