New sound system

I am looking to replace the stock sound system in my 99 T4R. I know the door speakers are 6.5", but am not very sure about the rear speakers? Are they 5x7??

I am starting from scratch, all I have right now is a monster amp and monster subs, with some 300 watt tweeters.

What do you guys suggest for the speakers in the doors and rear? And what about a multi channel amp?

Any help is appreciated,

Rear speakers are 5 1/4" --and to help answer your other questions, what type of music and how do listen to it, loud or normal, arte you doing a comp style system or not?

My '99 stock rear speakers are 4". You can try to fit 5 1/4" but it will require some drilling.

I went w/ components up front and just a 4" coax to replace the rears. If I didn't have rear passengers, I would have probably not put any rear speakers at all. I powered both sets of speakers w/ a 4-channel amp and I have a sub in the rear powered by a mono amp.
 
Unless they changed the speaker size in the 99 since the 97 its 4" in the back. Had a talk with the installers about it. They can fit in 6 1/2's tho cuz they did it in my car.

Exactly. I think the question was "What size are the rear speakers vs. what can fit?

I would like the system to be as powerful as can be, I need a good setup to go with the 2, 12" Kicker CVRs I have, and the a8002v amp from audiobahn.
 
your focus should be on the components you put up front. i have mb quart premium 6.5 comps in the front and they are pretty good. not great, a little too bright for my liking. i have not replaced the rear speakers because the front stage is more important to me than the rear fill, you can spend hundreds on rear speakers when you don't really need to, save the money and use it on the front comps/amp for them. if you use a 4 channel amp, as i have, the rears sound a little better, and the front comps sound good. if you want a ncie set of comps go with focal, rainbow, dynaudio. if u can afford it.
a big issue for me was the mounting depth of the 6.5 comps in the front, i had to make my own spacer to fit the mb quart premiums in the existing location because they were too deep and hit the window.
i have 2 id 12s for the subs and they sing really well. they are an sq sub as that was what i was going for with my system, it can get loud but i wanted clarity at lower - mid volume levels, i think i am going to ditch the harsh $450 mb quart premiums and get some focal utopias or something.
anyone heard the focals?
 
If you want really good quality for your money go for the alpine comp speakers. I payed $175 for front and back. They have amazing sound quality and for a good 4 channel amp go with Rockford Fosgate. They are a little bit more expensive but it is so worth the money!

No disrespect BUT Alpines and Rockford Fosgate are no where near Focals and other high-end amps. If you were recommending the Alpines to the first guy, then disregard this post.
 
btw I was recomending the alpines to the first guy. But I would disagree about the Rockford Fosgate amps. I would bet that a Rockford Fosgate amp could take a Focal or high end amp and day.
 
fosgate amps were good like 6 years ago, back then their speakers and subs were "ok" too, but now they were bought out by some jap company and their stuff has gone to shit, its the same with my mb quart comps, they used to be made in germany, but now they were bought out by some other company and now are manufactured over in rice land with the other stuff, and they have gone south, thats why im not happy with them, and need toi go with something else. in my opinion, alpine can make ok subs, decent amps for the money, but their speakers suck, their alpine type-x, which are supposed to be some really nice comps, need a 70-band equilizer tuned like crazy to get them to sing.

imo all alpine is good for is amps and subs, even then they don't have a sq sub, they just go boom, its the same with their speakers, they are not sq they are spl.
 
go get urself some focal component speaker. and get urself some jl audio amps. i personally have the jl audio 300/4 powering my a/d/s/ al6 components and focal access coaxils. if u really want to speand alot of money then get jl audio and focal for subs and speakers and amps, yes focal makes amps now. rockford fosgate amps are ok, if u thinking about dollar per watts, i juss have the fosgate p3001 pushing my jl audio 8.2 microsub. elemental designs also makes good stuff too,but i never hear how it sound like yet, they make speakers and amps also.

Ditto. I had two Punch 45 amps that ran a Fosgate box and two MB quart separates over 10 years ago. This sounded way cleaner than what I have today w/ Alpine amps. Not complaining as I knew what I was getting and am pretty happy w/ what I have now.

As far as the comment above and Fosgate amps, here's my thought: if you can buy your car audio stuff at Circuit City, Best Buy, etc., it's not probably world class stuff...

i have a set of adapters that are made for the rear 4runners. they will allow you to go to a 51/4 from a 4 inch with no drilling.
i bought it and never upgraded speakers.
interested? $15 shipped
 
lets re-evaluate my post. It alows you to go to a 5 1/4 speaker (aftermarket) from a 4" (stock).

its weird cuz i read the same ting as the other guy. maybe its my lisdexia...
