New Spark Plug Technology-Popular Science

I saw this site and thought it was interesting. We've all seen so many innovations of spark plug design with so many claims for improved performance. Still we generally go back to the manufacturer's recommended plugs. I was reading popular science today and saw an ad for a new plug which got my attention. They claim improved fuel economy will pay back the increased cost of these plugs within one year (or less) and the plugs will have a 4-7 year life span.

While these may or may not ignite the A-F mixture more efficiently, they throw enough technically incorrect bull out that I find their pitch highly suspect.

What are those 0-60 times? 5 seconds improvement for a Mercury? 10.0 for a Corrola? How are we supposed to read those since there's no way those can be correct.

Sounds like a good marketing ploy to suck in the general public since plugs alone have never shown more than a few HP increase.

They meant percentage, not seconds But in any case, the product looks bogus for the price. I would try them if they were under $10 but it would cost me over $150 to outfit my v6 with them. Can't be worth it, too good to be true, and it usually is.

As with almost every single one of these products it's total bunk. If they were true even in the slightest..the auto manufacturers would be incorporating the technology into every car they made.

The old saying...if it's too good to be true...it IS.

pollution out the exhaust is unburned fuel mixture and your oil needs changed because unburned fuel blows by the rings and
ruins the oil over time..

there is such thing as a better burn....but I frankly have not used these plugs....would like to try them though..

I am putting in cheap NGKs V-power 1.77 each next week. but I am drilling a small hole on the ground wire to give it the flamethrower effect..its like the pulsar but for 1.77...

I will report back here....

its all theory until you have actual results...from a real world environment.

True- in a sense at least, which is why the oil is manufactured to deal with contamination. If the oil stays clean through either better filtration or less contamination, it lasts much longer. Synthetics (some GRP II+ but mostly GRP IV) resist contamination far better than mineral oils. Temperature, moisture, etc all play a role, but I don't want this to turn into the motor oil thread.

Combustion results in waste products. Period. Car and engine mfg'rs know that. (It's a dirty job, but something has to do it LOL) Combustion chamber/intake design and piston/valve and ring materials, design, fuel , temp...make a bigger impact on complete combustion than any spark plug. Check with the NASCAR teams and see what they're using!
