new speakers, sugestions?

looking to replace my speakers in the rig, i have an aftermarket head unit, and its nothing crazy and im not planning or throwing a huge amp in(only gonna use an amp for a 10" sub if anything). so im just looking at a good inexpensive set up, not looking at spending more than $200 for both front and rear speakers. i listen to rock, pop, classic rock some of everything basically so i kinda need a good all around speaker. was looking at these for the front door Pioneer TS-G671M 6-1/2" 4-way car speakers — for 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" openings at Crutchfield.com, just trying to find a good rear door speaker but am open to any ideas -i currently have a blown speaker so i need to change

Those speakers are coaxials, and if your truck is like mine you have a place up by the side mirrrors for tweeters so you could go with a component set instead. Otherwise, those are right in line with what I would recommend to run off an aftermarket deck, no amp.
 
If you are going through Cruthfield I'd give them a call and work with an advisor. Tell thelm your setup and what you are trying to accomplish. I used their help in picking out a sub and recommended a brand I wasn't even considering, saved me money and it worked out great.

However what IanB said above is correct you can run components if you have the factory tweeter mounts, but then you run into having to do crossovers and will most likely need to rewire and mount the crossover. Not a big deal but more work.

As for the rear doors, if you pick up a set of speaker adapters here: Car-Speaker-Adapters - www.car-speaker-adapters.com - Call Us Today - 412-260-6835 you can increase the rear door size to 5 1/4 from the 4" factory.

I would recommend going to a few different places and listening to them yourself. Everyone's ear is a little different, so what sounds good to me might not be so good to you.

Although there really is no substitute for clean sound.
 
I have had JL Audio speakers and subs and love them. However like was said above everyone's ear is different. I wouldn't get caught up it the numbers as much as what sounds 'right' to you. Check out a few different places and take your time, no reason to rush into something that is a luxury anyways. I have had Alpine, Kenwood, MTX, Pioneer, and JL audio. JL Audio sounds the best to me so that is what I get when I can afford it.

Have fun shopping around and installing your new toys.
 
And when/if you get an amp, do NOT get caught up with pumping the most amount of power you can. 80-100 watts of GOOD power will trump 400 watts of crap.
 
I swear by Kicker, they are the best speakers/subs that i have ever had, the highs are amazing, if you look on ebay you can get a pair of components for about $110 shipped and most have a 3 year warranty on them, cant go wrong with Kicker
 
It also depends on what HU you have, you need to look at the effeciency (known as the sensitivity) of the speaker too. If you get a speaker that requires lots of power and you don't give it enough it will distort and sound crappy even at low volume.

What HU do you have?
 
Techronics.com and sonicelectronix.com have awesome prices. I have used them in the past. I had a bad experience with polk speakers in my 4runner. They blew with just my sony HU. so i do not recommend them.

I didnt go with components, i just got regular co ax speakers to keep wiring and fitting them easy. I have Memphis Car Audio speakers up front now and they have been great. I sunk my truck (well just filled the inside with water to the seats.....) and the water submerged the speakers while they were on. I cut the power as soon as I could. They still work great. Plus i hear they have a good warranty. The only deal is they are kind of expensive.

If not those Kicker makes good speakers. SO does alpine, and pioneer . You cant really go wrong with any of those choices.
 
this is my head unit Sony CXS-GT5516F Package Includes CD receiver and 6-1/2" speakers at Crutchfield.com as you can see its just a basic head unit, i got it cause i wanted something with a usb and audio jack on the front and a removable face plate, and something i can upgrade to HD. it works for me, i also wanted to put new speakers in my truck so it worked out nicely. i had this head unit in my wife 85 pick up and it did just fine on wash-boarded roads while playing a CD (the fact that it dosent skip like crazy off road was the selling point to me) i know its not the best or top of the line but then again im not trying to turn my rig into a mobile concert hall either
 
For speakers look at Phoenix Gold for great quality at a decent price. Also look at diamond audio, MB Quart, and Elemental Designs for the higher end stuff but might be higher prices.

I would try to stay away from sony. For mainstream brands I really like Alpine too. Mainly the type-r series for decent price and good quality.

Subwoofers are a different story.
 
I ran Alpine Type-S Everything in my 1st gen and LOVED them. I have 2 sets of 6.5 components and a set of 4's for the dash with a 10" sub.

All the speakers I got off of Amazon and Dealercostcaraudio.

Do your research at Crutchfield, but I would never pay their prices.

My rear speakers are both blown, goin JBL in the rear too.

If your looking for clear crisp sound, no matter what music, you will need an amplifier
