I like the little mud guards on the rear wheels. they look like mud guards but I'm sure they serve a better purpose

Looking at other pics online, they look like they're to be positioned in contact with the rails, front and back. Perhaps to clear off small debris. gravel, etc. since the wheel flange isn't very tall.

I live in Massachusetts........what railroad is using 4 runners?
Around me it's the MBTA/Keolis and they use white pickups with utility bodies on the back to check track. That 4 runner track truck is "wicked awesome" as we say around here.
