New T&H Eurtotech Bar is a POS!!

Ok, so maybe that's a bit harsh, but check this out:

I finally got my new bar in the mail last week while out of town in Vegas. I got home at 4am Sunday and was so excited that I mounted it myself, right then (when it comes to this kind of stuff I'm like a child on Christmas).

I was initially impressed by the quality of the bar and mounts.

One of the features I like about this bar is that there are mounting tabs to mount fog lights. The tabs are not welded on, however, and each attaches with a single bolt to a threaded hole in the back of the bar.

I ran all the wires to mount my new PIAAs on there and went to bolt the mounting tab onto the bar. I noticed that when properly tightened, the tab is loose and allows the lights A LOT of play from side to side; enough to do some damage to the bar or lights. So I kept tightening the bolt until it was secure.

But it will never be secure. The threaded hole in the bar is not attached well and the whole thing starts to spin with the bolt. The same thing happened on the other side.

I have not had a chance to call them, yet, but for those of you interested in purchasing this to mount your lights: I would suggest that you wait until I hear back from them before you purchase.

The worst part is that one of the bolts will not come out...just spins and spins.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

wow.....why would they downgrade in quality like that? the tabs on my bar ar welded on. good luck with your bar. from what i've heard before....T&H is pretty good with customer service.

BTW.....the bar itself is certainly not a POS (not mine at least). I've hit a concrete wall at about 5mph 3 times now (did it again last week), and still no ding. It's still hard to adjust to the extra 3-4 inches the bar gives to the nose of the 4runner.

If it's a threaded insert maybe you can pry it out or drill it out and then use larger self tapping screws/bolts.
I hate when you buy something new and then have to start dicking with it to get it to work the way it's suppose to.:bash:

That's what I was thinking, but I got the powdercoated version. Not sure if that presents a problem.

I already tried prying. I'll keep the drilling option in my back pocket.

OK, so I managed to mangle and remove the stuck bolt and the threaded insert. Now my next question:

Can anyone tell me whether or not I can get this welded with a powder coat? Also, I've never done something like this before. How do I go about finding a welder for this?
