Hey whats up. I`ve been browsing the site for like a month now and decided to sign up. Picked up my first Toyota about a month ago. It`s a 1998 SR5 V6 4x4. 141k miles. I paid 5,500$ for it.

It has a 2 " and 2 1/2" OME lift. 33" BFG Mud Terrains. Grills all around. Bug deflector and window gutters all around. Six Hella 500`s (im guessing thats what model they are) and a Surco safari rack. Over all its seen a little mud and trail use but is in excellent condition. The truck has service records for everything dating back to the original owner. Has had the timing belt service, replaced alternator and numerous other small things done to it.

With the help of the guides and what not on this forum i plan to do a full service tune-up to the truck soon. Oil change. Gear oil change and drain/replace the tranny fluid. The brakes are really loose and need to be pumped so i think im going to bleed the brakes and replace the brake fluid as well. Anyway. Nice to meet yaz.

that is one of my favorite colors for the 4runners, i just wish they made that color in the 01-02's

and congrats on the new t4r, it looks pretty dang gorgeous.

any plans for future mods?
 
I`d like to get a K&N air setup and a hood with a functional scoop on it. Would also like to put some beefy running boards on it for my kids. I dont do any serious off-road`n so the 4x4 function should be all i ever need.

I havent changed my own oil and stuff in many years so doing a tune-up and getting a couple more tools is my first priority.

Ya, think so. 33x12 tires. The rims measure 16 1/4 on the outside across. I dont see any markings or specs on the actual rims tho. Changed the air filter, new battery, oil, drained the brakes with new fluid, lubed all the grease points i could find and the truck is running 100% better (not that it was bad before). It`s really quiet now. Can hardly tell its running. I used Mobil1 5w 30w full synthetic and a mobil 1 oil filter. From what i read i shouldn't change it out but every 5-6k miles right?

Here in a bit im going to pull it in my garage and really clean the under carriage and put a little under armor / rust prevention spray on it. When i was under it earlier i noticed a little rust and mud build up around the catconverter and back frame. I figured i could take a steel brush and some cleaner to it and get most of it off.
 
Congratulations! You got a great truck for a good price.
People who don't own a T4R just don't know what they are missing.
Flushing and replacing the break fluid is a good idea and let's hope that solves your issue.
I always use Dot 4 synthetic brake fluid as the other fluids are hydroscopic and attract water and degrade or can cause rust within your system.
If you can find a shop that does "pressure bleeding," that is awesome and beats pumping the pedal which can also be hard on your master cylendar.
They attach their device to the top of your master cylendar, turn it on (which pressure feeds fresh fluid into the MC), then open each slave cylendar bleeder from the furthest away to the closest - all done in less than 15 minutes.

Spare tire.

I noticed the spare under the truck is a stock tire. Will it screw up my gearing if i need to run that spare due to a flat or blow out? Would a 33" tire fit in the spare mount under the truck?
 
for steps for the kids i would go with schrockworks sliders....they offer a great step, look awesome, great protection for off road and bolt on but they are somewhere in the 400 range in cash. JMO
