New T4R Owner with 317k Miles

Hello everyone, I just went out on a limb and purchased a 1998 SR5 automatic 4X4 with 317k miles on the original motor and transmission.

It really rides well and you woukd never guess it has the mileage it does by looking at the exterior....interior is a different story lol....317k miles of cigarette tar all over it.

I am hopimg to at least get another 20k-30k miles out of it. If I can achieve that I will be extremely satisfied.

I do have maintenance records from the previous owner amd it is due for a TB and WP. Doimg that this weekend.

I have been reading this forum for the past few dsys just kimda lurkimg aroumd. The buyers guide is an amazing help....thank you tonthe author.

I am pretty mechanically inclined and plan to do everything myslef if possible. I have read and read on these and am amazed by the support they recieve online.

If any of you would be willing to offer some poimters of what to do or check I am all ears.

I plan to do normal maintenance on it now. Transmission fluid was just replaced when the shift solenoids were replaced.

So im doing, oil, brake, power steering, coolant when water pump is done, front amd rear difs and all subsequent filters including cabin filter. Olugs and wires were done 50k ago so I may be good there, clean throttle body and maf, and a major detailing.

I look forward to driving the T4R and talking with you all.

Do I need to get a FSM for this or do most of you just use the Internet?

I bought for my 2000 Cherokee and its nice to have next to me when I need it.

Welcome to T4R !
You can't beat a FSM, it has instructions to do everything you'll ever need to do.
They can be found online if you look.

Got a question for you. Im sure this is a really stupid question but I am going to ask anyway because im tryimg to be positive about this lol.

Is it normal on these to have a little bit of white stuff (water/coolant most likely) under the oil filler cap?

It was just a littke bit and it seemed to look old. I wiped it out to see if it builds up again. The oil looks clean and the coolant is good and green which kind of scares me because it looks so new. Its not over heating, heat blows hot amd it idles so smooth I think it dies.

What and where should look first?
