new t4r owner

just purchased a 96 2wd sr5 auto today. it's got 144k miles, has leather thats still in good condition and a sun roof.

no accidents (rear hatch has been replaced tho, but no repaint on any other panels) and i paid 4131 out the door. clean title.

hatch window doesn't roll down tho.

timing belt has been replaced at 130 as said on the timing belt cover in 07.

missing the keyless remote, but has the factory vip alarm. what kinda remote is this?

drives good small things like broken center air vents and minor small things here and there.

my sis has a 98 4cyl since 00, now with 160. so i was happy with the reliability of that one

oh i wanna go all black exterior (no chrome) and newer front facia, are the headlights, grill and front bumper/valance a direct swap?

Is it the RS3000 alarm? If so, you just need to get a keyfob.

hey, thanks. yea i just checked it under the driver seat today. it's the rs3000 alarm. dealer wants 90 for the remote

I'm 99% positive that the head lights are a direct fit.

I'm also interested in the front grille and bumper.

Looks good, I just got my 4Runner, and black was my other top choice after white. I am wanting to do the same thing and black out the chrome on mine as well, definitely keep us updated!

2wd?! sad.... well since you have 2 wheel drive you have no choice but to turn it into a long travel prerunner with baja fiberglass fenders.

haha yea 2wd, in texas, we ain't got snow nor do i offroad. so atleast gain 1mpg with the 2wd right. lol.


oh blackout on a white runner would look pretty good. i think i saw one online in the pic gallery.

yea the alarm module is under the driver seat. mine is. its the rs3000

so, i didn't look under the seat, but because i don't have the 'security' LED light on the dashboard besides the 'passenger seat belt reminder light' means that i don't have a factory alarm installed?
I have the keyless entry remote with lock/unlock/rear window/panic options and the beep when using it, but this has nothing to do with the alarm, right?

what i do have, the dealer gave me another remote control from KARR and a control switch with a light and a button installed under the dash. is that a custom alarm? dealer said not to use that, because can create problems. not sure what he meant.

so, what am trying to figure out is: do a have a factory alarm? do i have another kind of alarm installed?

umm i think u have a factory alarm. somoene else can verify that. diff alarm have diff things. usually if u have a keyless, it has an alarm. plus i think the 99 up are imobilized. so usually they come with alarms. break window after u lock it. lol. jk
