New TE owner

Hey everyone,

Just thought I'd do a little intro post. We just made a deal on a 2010 4Runner Trail Edition. It was a demo, 2500km (don't know what that is in miles), so we saved a nice chunk of money. It is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find any 4Runners in Toronto. No plans to do any "real" off-roading other than some trails and fire roads up at the cottage, could have made do with an SR5 upgrade package, but there are none out there. And the Limited isn't really appealing to me. Plus the Trail edition just looks so awesome... and has some great features.

Anyways she's grey, and coming with the remote starter. She will remain that way for the time being.... next month I will want to install some Katzkin leather seats w/ heaters. Other than that, the only other plans are to find a leather steering wheel (from an SR5 or Limited), a TRD CAI, and some different wheels/tires. The 16" TRD wheels for the FJ cruiser are nice, but from what I've read they won't fit.... anyways not a priority right now.

We didn't just buy a 4Runner though.... also a new Taco. Traded in our 09 F150 FX4 Luxury edition... it was a great truck but just too big for when we have to drive in the city, and man she liked to drink the gas. Got a Double Cab, Long bed TRD sport w/ leather. The accessories listed in my signature are being added to the truck. Also was going to order the OEM roof racks. Plans for the Taco are a TRD CAI, trailer brake controller, 7 to 4 pin adaptor, new wheels/tires (really like the TRD beadlocks!), and possibly the TRD supercharger kit. Hopefully will haul the toys (2008 Suzuki LTR450, 2001 Honda CR125, and 2000 Honda CR125) as well as the F150!

Picking up the 4Runner on Tuesday, and the Taco later in the week... right now the only picture I have is of the 4Runner, and it's from my Blackberry. I'll take a lot of pictures when she comes home on Tuesday though!

Anyways glad to be on the forum, spent a lot of time lurking prior to making the purchase.

So far I have only seen two 5th Gens - one was a BP Limited pulling into the shopping centre on Taunton and Harmony and the other was a magnetic grey TE parked at Country Perks on Taunton and Enfield. You are a member of an elite crowd !

Haha guess it's good to be part of a small group! I really haven't seen too many 5th gens on the road either. Barely any at most dealerships for sale. I don't think I've seen a single SR5 in real life. Only ever seen one other TE in real life, and it was in Boston. Mostly see Limiteds.

They had a 2010 TE MG at my local dealer in Whitby still last week - their demo - I thought that was the one you had found ! The salesman there keeps steering me from them - I suspect it's because he knows I drive a hard bargain and they are hard to source. You did well finding that Taco as well - not too many with leather on them and the dealerships fight over inventory on them because they move so fast. I am currently wavering between a 5th Gen and a Taco like that.

No way.... wish I would have known, could have been able to do a little comparison on price between the two. Out of curiosity, how much are they asking for it? It angers me that no Toyota dealers show their inventory in their website... there are so many in the GTA it's impossible to visit each and every showroom to check out their stock. When we were buying the F150, you could jump onto Ford's website and search all dealers within a certain radius. Made it easy to track down the vehicle you want without having to visit every single dealership.

And yeah, the dealer was saying they are hard to get (the one's with leather). When we were making the deal they said there was ONE incoming to Ontario in April, and they were going to take it for us.... however later the same day they said that they found one in one of their warehouses, so we will be picking up it up later this week. On autotrader right now, there is the exact same truck for sale at Don Valley North Toyota (2011, black, TRD sport/auto/leather). They are asking way above sticker price though.... something like $45k + tax. The truck also has close to 400km (not that many, but from the looks of the pictures, it looks like someone at the dealer is currently driving it, meaning it will go up).

You really can't go wrong with either! Only downside to buying a Tacoma right now is that the new update is around the corner.

I am holding off until the summer to see what happens to the Taco - its far from clear if it will be 2012 or 2013 - the production only moved to Texas a year ago so its a stretch for them to change over after just one year with the current model (yes I have spent far too much time lurking on Tacomaworld as welll :) ).

Not sure what the Whitby dealership wanted for the 2010 - they still don't have a 2011 in so for now its their only demo - they certainly aren't pushing it - its tucked away on the lot after spending most of last year in the showroom after the launch. The best thing they could do now would be to sell it as a certified used so it can take advantage of their low TFS rate promotion on used inventory - the TFS rates on a new 2010 are outrageous for some reason.

Sounds like a reasonable plan. Good to hear you're doing your research though! haha. Really the only thing I wish the Tacoma had more of was towing capacity and engine power. Exterior still looks pretty "fresh" IMO.... interior is also fine. We're considering putting the TRD supercharger kit on the Taco in a few months to give it a little more power.... don't expect to tow anything over the 6400lb tow limit, but do expect to occasionally come near that limit, so the supercharger would definitely help with that!

Ahh. Downtown Toyota was pretty pushy about getting this 4Runner off their lot...so sounds like it wouldn't have been worth the drive to Whitby! I'm happy with the price I paid and the condition of the vehicle anyways so I have nothing to complain about anyways.

Was at the dealer today - that 2010 TE is still there - looks like they are selling it as used now at C$40,239 - no idea on the kms though. Just dropped 800 on a new exhaust for the 4th Gen.
