New timing belt, no timing marks...

Well uh, I was banned from yotatech for bad language which doesnt make any sense because they censor it anyways but whatever...

Anyways I'm in the middle of the head gasket job on my 3vze and trying to get the timing belt set up but there are no timing marks on the belt itself. It is a new factory belt. I also cant find either of the marks that the FSM says are supposed to be on the crank pulley for the belt.

Anybody had this problem? Should there be marks on the belt or is it right? I work at Toyota but I'm trying to get this done today. If I dont then I will ask a tech about it tomorrow.

well I'm a noob so I don't have any help for you, but the timing gears are going different ways. (one with the lip in, one with it out) that's how mine where, only backwards from yours..

Well thats how they were when I took them apart. So thats how I put it back together. I think one side protects the belt from coming forward off of the pulley and the other does the opposite.

well on mine, there is an arrow on the lipped side that im assuming shows TDC. idk, i have only had mine for two days, and so far the only thing i found out, is i have a locked crank :sobbing: lol best of luck with it, and btw, how much is the TB and WP from Toyota? my TB is from GoodYear and has a huge groove in it, because some idiot didn't put the cover back on right, and it ran against it.. I'm going to buy another 3VZ-E and rebuild it to replace mine..

If you are good are pretty competent with this kinda stuff you might want to look into the 3.4 swap. You will end up paying about the same, but in the end you will have MUCH more power and better fuel economy. It would be a 5vze out of a newer 4runner or Taco. Motor mounts and bellhousing are the same. Just search around for 3.4 swap.

well i already found another 3VZ-E for $125 at a local pull yard. and this is probably going to end up being my daily untill i can fix up my Acura some more.. currently driving around in the Grand Prix, which is my mom's lol. thanks for the info, i will for sure look into the 5VZ-E swap.
