New tire from those Koreans

Have you looked at an Azera or Sonata lately? Not exactly the same car as the $5995 Excel of years ago.
The Korean manufacturers make it cheap and woo customers on price. Then they turn up the quality and price once their foothold in the market bas been obtained. Competition from Hankook, who is beginning to turn the corner, will make the all terrain market more competitive.
These tires look promising, with a strong sidewall, 10 ply (for 265-70R17) and a unique tread feature allowing for a wider contact patch. Lets hope its priced right.

The stats don't back those assumptions. Further, I have seen the piss-poor craftsmanship that goes into Hyundais, especially the Tucson. They are an electrical nightmare and the other models are not far off. I'm not saying American-built products are any better but in terms of tires I would pick a Bridgestone Dueler or a BF Goodrich AT any day over a Nitto, Hankook, Sumitomo or the like. Probably even some Dunlops for that matter...
Japan used to be synonomous with crap.
For the past 20 years Japan is now synonomous with quality and well made products. Korea may have had their Daewoo, but let's not bring up the AMERICAN MADE Corvair, Pinto, Edsel, Firestone, etc. Korea has evolved through their cheap crap phase and now has the ability to make some very fine prodcuts. Korea, like Japan, evolved from making small appliances to medium appliances, to manufacturing cheap cars to making some pretty darn good stuff all around. They are one of the the largest manufacturers of super tankers in the world. They now have the technology, production skills, management expertise nad QC to be the next "Japan."
Same with China. I refused to buy a set of Toyos because they were stamped made in China. China is still evolving and while they made be able to make all sorts of prodcuts well, their corruption and lack of QC resulting in substantial tire recalls caused me to refuse their products for teh time being. Give them time and a few more executions for corruptions and bribery and I believe China will surpass Japn in quality and volume.

And you must not read, watch or listen to the news because China's manufacturing processes are so poor that some countries are considering banning their products. Not to mention they have the worst polluted cities on the entire planet.
But back to the tires. I don't trust them and it will take a very long time for me to. It seems to me that they are like Kumho, cheap price and cheap alternative to good tires. There are two things in life you don't economize on: shoes and tires...

Why not compare recalls to the US auto industry? The Big 3 would have down th tube a long time ago if we look at recalls. Why not compare recalls to good old food industry and tainted spinach, tainted beef, etc.
China makes a hugh amount of goods--Walmart would not exist without China. Chian is now working to expert Chery automobiles in a joint venture with European makers. With this huigh amount iof good made shoddy products will be in the mix. It will take time for China to get it in gear. But for a country that 20 years ago came out of the grips of Mao's demented policies, this is lighting speed.

I knew it!! Those look like they came from the same designer. What is up with all these "bling" on the sidewall??!! I just want a sidewall that does the job...i don't need flames and bolts.

Even the American car manufacturers had to back off horsepower claims.
If you search the net hard enough you can find lawsuits for many different types of cars.
How about the Ford Explorer/Firestone tire situation of a few years ago?

I have had the best luck with tires that some have never herd of from company's like Delta tire, Dean, Fisk, Cordovan, Multi-Mile, Sigma and my current tire Mastercraft Courser A/T-2 (made by Cooper tire).
In most cases private brand tires are made by one of the big tire company's just sold under a different name and sometimes they make there own. I can't overlook the price/proformance ratio of many of the above brands.
My current Mastercraft Courser A/T tires are some of the best A/T tires I have ever owned and after six SUV's each driven over 100K I have owned many tires.
By the way all the above brands above are made in the USA

When i bought my 4runner it came with some odd named "Savero HT Plus GT Radial" tires, never head of them, but they are very quiet and so far soo good. I think the dealer i bought it from looks like they threw them on because they were cheap, when i got the 4runner they look new.

I just bought some Savero HT plus tires made my giti. They are great so far. See my earlier post about them. I think China and Korean made tires are a great value. You are paying for the name most of the time. I don't care about the name of the tire. I care about the look, treadwear, traction and price.
