FWIW, I'm running 38psi on my Cross Terrains.
Michelin LTX MS2 tire.
Purchased new 4Runner 6 days ago. Pulled off the Bridgestone Dueler H/T the next day and sold to a tire dealer and replaced with the Michelin MS2. Terrific difference as soon as I left the tire shop. I had Bridgestone before and never liked them. Had the standard Michelin MS before and they were terrific. The MS2 is also a smooth riding tire. I own a Lexus sedan with the RFT's and the 4Runner runs quieter than the Lexus with the RFT's. I have put 400 miles on the new Michelins this week and could not be more pleased with my decision.

A few years ago, I was trying to decide between Bridgestone Revo's and Michelin LTX MS tires for my 1999 4Runner. I went with the Revo's. Turned out to be a mistake. With only around 1500 miles or so, I pulled them off, sold them at a slight loss and bought some Toyo Open Country tires from a trusted local tire shop. I think that wasn't a good choice either, but I kept those tires for about 4 years/40k miles and they were pretty much worn out. Wet traction was never great and by the time they were expired, they were ridiculously slick. So, I looked for the Michelin LTX MS again and found they now have LTX MS-2. About a grand later, and I had all four on the car, aligned and with road hazard coverage.
To sum up my experience with these so far,... "WOW!" I'm the original owner of my 4Runner and between the BFG Rugged Trail, Bridgestone Revo, Toyo Open Country tires I've had on my car, these LTX MS-2 are significantly different in wet traction! It used to be that when accelerating in a turn that the inside wheel would almost always spin on wet roads. Now I can't even get them to spin at all! The ride has smoothed out a bit too. On top of that, they even look better than the Open Country tires I had before. They weren't cheap but I am very pleased so far and it sounds like they tend to last a long time based on others testimonies.

Michelin LTX/MS 2's or Nokian WRG2SUV's?
It's Tire Replacement time for our 2008 T4R. The Dunlop's have seen better day's... They were scarey on slick road's at 30,000 miles I can't imagine 40K with Winter's along Lake Erie.
I've narrowed it down to two different brand's; either Michelin LTX M/S 2's or Nokian WRG2SUV's. Having a hard time deciding between the two... I'm hoping to get some input since this is a Michelin Tire thread and maybe others are looking for some new tires for the up coming Winter.
Our 2008 SR5 4-Runner is driven 80% Interstate and City Expressway's. Another 10% in the City on Slick Winter Road's and slushy intersection's. Another 10% on Country Road's. It's not really used off Road just some light towing in the Summer and maybe loaded up with Firewood and Misc. stuff every once in awhile.
We went through two set's of Michelin's LTX M/S's on our 3rd generation 4 Runner. Never had ANY issues with them once we found someone to balance them properly. They did seem a little stiff though and after talking with the Tire shop I would air them down to 28-30 lb's in the Back during the Winter that helped.
I talked with a high end tire place and they said I might consider Nokian WRG2 SUV's. I never heard of these Tires and was told they should provide a smoother Highway ride then the Michelin's and even better traction in the Winter. I read several review's but not enough to make my mind up. I guess they won't last nearly as long and some said after a year they start to get loud on the highway. The Nokian's are about $300 less then the Michelin LTX M/S 2's but in our climate I'm not skimping on tires especially putting 25K a year on the vehicle.
Any input greatly appreciated.

I just put the Michelin M/S2s on my 07 4Runner. I don't have very many miles on them (~200 miles) but I doubt any tire can provide a smoother and quieter highway ride than the M/S2s. They are great tires and I had a hard time finding anything negative about them, even for driving in snow/rain. I thought about the Nokians and heard they have better winter traction, but I've read a few places that because of the better winter traction (softer tread) you lose a little bit on overall mileage for the tire vs the M/S2.
I by no means am a tire expert so you can take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I say go with the Michelin LTX M/S2.

A concern I have with the Nokian's is burning through a set much faster and possibly buying Tires every two year's with the mileage we put on. The Nokian's should do better in the Winter but what about the other 2/3rd's of the year... I'm no Tire expert either but softer Rubber like in Winter tires has to wear much faster.
I'm still undecide but definetely leaning toward's the Michelin LTX M/S 2's. It's hard to believe there 25% more expensive then last year (approximately $1050.00-$1150.00 a set out the Door) but I guess what ever's tied to Oil has shot way up. Take Roofing shingles for example.
Any other feedback on the Nokian's or Michelin's would be appreciated

My 97 4Runner has never ridden so smooth with these MS2's. It's like a different truck all together.
I put the LTX MS2's on last December before my trip from SW FL to Minneapolis. Awesome highway tire. Great in the snow also. ABS never really had to kick in while driving in the snow (I really miss snow) no matter how deep. Wife says no road trip to MN this winter because we drove the runner back up to MN and back this past June. The tires are holding up well. I expect to get many more miles from them. I will be a Michelin buyer for life. You get what you pay for.
I can vouch for Mich LTX MS2's.. I got 65k on last set I had on my F150 and 45k on my tahoe before I sold it. Very quiet and smooth and never failed me in rain, ice or snow. Previous owner put a couple new brigstone duelers on my '05 4runner so I put 2 matching ones on, if not for that I would have put on a new set of LTX MS2's.. they are that good.

Wow! I hate to be a dissenting voice here but mine have been nothing but a problem on my 2006 Sport. Mine came with Dunlops and I had no probelms with those despite everyone bad-mouthing Dunlop. I switched to Goodrich Long Trails and they were super, wish I had them back. When it came time for new ones at about 130,000 miles, Michelin had a sale going so they cost no more than the Goodrich, so I went for the Michelins as it was a new tire and everyone was raving about them. I had also had the original LTX M&S on my Bronco years ago and loved them. As soon as the Michelins were put on I developed a wobble. I took it back multiple times in the first two weeks, they checked the balance and the alignment multiple times to no avail. They finally replaced two of the tires and that seemed to work. My better sense told me to leave them alone but I took them in last week for rotation at 20,000 miles. Immediately the wobble was back ! They had to replace another tire. They have a "road force" machine that they test the tires on to simulate road travel and the tire man said the tire they replaced was all over the place on the machine. He also said I was not alone and that they have had to replace a bunch of these tires. He further volunteered that while the original LTX M&S had been a great tire, he felt that they had not gotten the tire compound right on these new ones. By the way, the reason I put the Goodrich tires on originally a few years ago, instead of the Michelin Cross Terrains was that the same dealer advised me then, that they had been having some quality control problems with Michelin. Glad so many of you are having better luck than me.

So I'm a bit confused....are you saying that you have the LTX MS/2's that you've had so much trouble with or the M/S?

I have the new version, the LTX MS/2. I don't know if the original LTX M&S is still made but in the past, they did not make it in the 4-Runner size.

They did not make the original M&S LTX in the correct OEM size, which is 265/65/17.
Looking at these tires on tirerack, I noticed that some sizes are "Green X" which means they have less rolling resistance than the non green x ones. also the load and speed rating is different. I wonder how much difference there is between green x and non green x in terms of ride, gas mileage, etc.

I put a set of stock size (265/65R17) M/S2 on my 04 limited V8 last month. Its been all city driving so far but I can say that compared to the worn out Michelin Cross Terrains:
1. better wet traction
2. just as quiet (maybe slightly audible with windows down - thats pretty quiet to me - kind of like a squishing rubber sound)
3. Not quite as smooth as the cross terrains BUT I have them pumped up to 40psi where as the cross terrains maxed out at 34psi. I want to see if I get better mileage with the higher psi (sidewall says max is 44psi - I like to leave a little bit of margin).
So far very happy with them - balance is good too (no vibes at all).

what kind of gas mileage are you getting since like you i do mostly all city driving. So you say the cross terrains were also just as good?
