NEW TIRE: Michelin LTX M/S-2

I had Michelin Defender LTX tires installed on mine this week, factory size so probably not pic-worthy. Great point on the date codes...I checked them before they mounted them and all 4 were 1817, week 18 year 2017. Pretty fresh. They ride nicer than the 2013 vintage Firestone Destination LEs that were on it, no more squealing in corners.

I put the Michelin Defender 265 65 x 70 on all four last week. They are very smooth on highway. Rain has just started here in our new area so will have to wait. For the price $998,00 otd with $100. rebate from Michelin and $60. rebate for using the discount tire card should probably be good buy.

The original LTX MS I put on my 3rd Generation 1997 2WD. Worked well for me in the desert leading up to Flagstaff when a person went from 90 degrees to snow in a trip from Phoenix. I was using the Pirelli ATR Scorpion which for Alasaka clearly were superior in snow and ice. Now in the "civilized" world off shore of Seattle I thought the Defender would be a good pick. So far I like the smoother ride, but miss the cat like grip of the Scorpions.

Update Michelin Defender LTX

UPDATE, On Michelin defender LTX tires. I was fishing in the High Sierras last week and hit a freak snow storm, 6 inches of snow and 22 degrees at 6 am and lots of snow and black ice. Drove to the lake at 8000 ft with no problem. I did lock up into 4WD. Tires worked well in these conditions. Braking was good also, but I tend to drive slower in icy conditions. Fishing not so good.

A few weeks and what impresses is the butter smoothness and the grip on corners. New to Seattle and it's hills a couple of the steeper streets lead to my job so will post when the rain freezes. That should be interesting.

Thanks for all your great posts. Do you know anything about Michelin Defender LTX M&S? I'm looking for an all season tire. I am an 04' Limited original owner and have always had the OEM tires 265 65 17 Bridgestone Duehler H/t 840 and have been happy with them. I tend to believe if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I can still get them at Costco but Bridgestone said they're discontinued. So if I order from Costco, they're not able to tell me the date on the tire b/c they have to order them and I have to pay up front with credit card. So I'm concerned that the tires may be more than a year old and don't want to be stuck with old tires once they order them. The OEM's are quiet to me and have been great in the snow in New England winters. Snow not the most important to me anymore because I garage for about 6 months and so only occasionally drive in snow. Also looking for a tire that's quiet and good in rain. I'm concerned that Michelin's may be louder and two different Costco's told me that Michelins tend to rot or oxidize when garaged, yet many people posting love them.

My review above is for the Defenders. Since that time I have been very impressed. Soft smooth and great in the PNW rain.
